Lidl To Become First UK Supermarket To Pay Living Wage
Lidl UK’s CEO has said he is “proud” of his employees as the company becomes the first British supermarket to pay its staff the living wage.
Under the new rules, all of the supermarket’s UK workers will be paid a minimum of £8.20 an hour across England, Scotland and Wales, and £9.35 per hour in London. This will be an average wage increase of £1,200 per year, with 53% of Lidl UK’s 17,000 workforce and all age brackets benefitting from the rise.

Lets see and hopei that this has a knock on effect with other Supermarkets.

Can you believe, there are some here in the U.S. who would say their jobs are too easy to merit a living wage?
Re: Lidl To Become First UK Supermarket To Pay Living Wage
It's a great thing to happen but it will still make most families find it hard and struggle because cost of living is so high rent/mortgage council tax is way to high and most working families claim working tax credits and child tax credits and also rent and council tax help , so with the rise in wage they will lose their help and be worse off .

It's a big rise from the current minimum wage. The idea is that the tax payers shouldn't have to subsidise workers in the form of benefits, which is a good thing.
Why will only 53% of employees benefit though?

I do agree it is a good thing but because everything is so expensive that's why working benefits were introduced , the best way to remedy it is to have lower rents mortgages and then people would be able to stand on their own two feet which is what most people want .

Yes. I really wish something would be done about rent/house prices - that would sort out most of the problems IMO. Nobody will though because home owners and landlords will moan about it.
