Air Canada pilot diverts plane to save dog’s life

An Air Canada pilot has been hailed a hero after he landed his plane to save the life of a dog on his plane.

There was a problem with the heating in the cargo hold where Simba, a French Bulldog, was being kept on the Tel Aviv to Toronto flight.

After being reunited at Pearson Airport, the owner told City News: ‘It’s my dog, it’s like my child. It’s everything to me.’

Temperatures over the Atlantic Ocean plummet to as low as -60°C outside the plane and go below zero in the cargo hold.

So rather than risk the dog’s life, the pilot landed at Frankfurt, Germany, where Simba was put onto another plane.

The unscheduled stop delayed the flight by about an hour and a quarter and cost around $10,000 in fuel and landing fees.
