Hitler's all-conquering stormtroopers 'felt invincible because of crystal meth-style drug Pervitin'

Hitler’s armies carried out their “Blitzkrieg” invasions of Poland and France while high on a version of crystal meth which kept them wide awake, feeling euphoric and invincible, says a new book about the Nazis’ use of drugs during the Second World War.
In Der Totale Rausch – (Total Rush), which was published in Germany last week, Norman Ohler reveals the key strategic role of the methamphetamine-based drug, manufactured from 1937 onwards by the Nazis under the brand name of “Pervitin” and distributed among the armed forces. The drug was marketed as a pick-up pill which was designed to combat stress and tiredness and created feelings of euphoria. “In the beginning the army didn’t realise Pervitin was a drug: soldiers thought it was just like drinking coffee,” explained Mr Ohler.

I understand the Zulu's used a type of Cannabis when fighting against the British, which made them feel invincible, believing they would be immune to bullets.

its why the bull mastif was bred Didge....

they were some of the first "dogs of war"

the beserkers intent was to run under the opposing cavalry horses and "hamstring them" bringing down the horse and the armoured guy on it....

the dogs job was to kill the beserkers

one reason you often see depictions of knights with two or more mastif type dogs....

I watched a documentry a few years back where they tested the drug the Zulu's used on two Judo evenly matched components. When the drug kicked in its effects were apparant straight away. It was if he was far stronger, reactions were quicker, focused  etc. Where they had been easily matched the one who had taken the drug, of which he was unaware he had taken anything, easily started to win

I find it hard to believe that an army using drugs makes a great deal of sense at the end of the day you need a force that will maintain it's discipline and orders....

A little off-point, but there is a film starring Frank Sinatra and Shirley Malaine titled "Some Came Running."  The film version only focused on the second half of the book, when the soldier came home from the Korean War. So the title never made sense.  

However, the first half of the book was actually about the war itself.  The main character was amazed at how the Koreans got high, and advanced directly into the fire of a .50-cal. machine gun.  "And some came running..."
