As far as whether it's the same god or not, obviously Muslims consider Allah to be the "true" version of god, believing the Jews' and Christians' knowledge of god's true nature to have been corrupted.

In that sense, Jews, Christians and Muslims are really having an argument about what god is really like, rather than worshipping three distinctly separate deities.

You see this even within the religions themselves -- Sunni vs. Shia, Protestant vs. Catholic (etc.), Orthodox vs. progressive Jews.

I think the best thing is for a wave of reformers to be elected into office. As an American, though, you have to remember I was raised to believe individual liberty must be balanced against public safety measures. I saw Dick Cheney justify a bloody, bloody war based on the doctrine that if there was a 1 percent chance that a country could harm the U.S., we had no choice but to treat it as if it was about to attack. Of course, in the U.S. if you catch a burglar in your home you have the right to kill them. But that doesn't actually happen very often; many times the criminal takes the gun from the homeowner.

Most times the burglars do their thing and you're screwed because the police are never finding the criminal or your belongings. It's happened to me, though luckily they didn't get much.

And, if you didn't buy insurance for it before, you're not getting any compensation.
