Fracking in Ponder, Texas: the real cost - video
In north Texas, the pumping heart of the oil and gas industry, an energy company are drilling five wells behind Veronica Kronvall's home. The closest two are within 300ft of her tiny patch of garden, and their green pipes and tanks loom over the fence. As the drilling began, Kronvall, 52, began to suffer nosebleeds, nausea and headaches. Her home lost nearly a quarter of its value and some of her neighbours went into foreclosure

There is a huge debate going on in the UK about whether fracking is safe for the general public especialy those that are going to be close by to the derilling operations.
So what's the deal on fracking?

Yeah Fracking is Really Bad, we already got a poisoned town it only had like 20 people so it pretty much got brushed under the carpet (no one died). we got a lot space with only cows, sheep, kangaroos and stuff (there are more of all those things than people down here) so they have been doing it there and guess reimburse somebody :\\:[: if things die. (except probably kangaroos and stuff )

That's not so good and I certainly wouldn't want a drilling operation to start up near to where I live.
Anyway, got to go and nice chatting with you - maybe catch up on this later.

Interesting Veya, the RW over here are screaming abuse at anyone opposing fracking, even their own supporters who have been protesting and trying to make out there are no problems with it.

My dear old grandma died 40 years ago. Suffered nosebleeds first, nausea and started stumbling around the house.
Lived in a wonderfully peaceful place, no industry around her.
Maybe there was some secret fracking going on near her - can't believe she would just die.
It's happened to a few billion others too I hear....

Thats ok Andy, you have it in your back garden, I'm sure you'd welcome it and we can live in peace.

I would if I could sass, but I think there's a minimum distance between the fracking site and peoples' homes.
Just sayin.

Actually no, they have already said here that fracking will be done UNDER peoples homes without asking their permission. So all that nice Radon in the rocks will be pushed up and pollute your home. 'Exposure to radon in the home is responsible for an estimated 20,000 lung cancer deaths each year. Radon is a health hazard ' http://www.epa.gov/radon/

Well, the RW has another problem with this. The leaking of methane into the atmosphere results in climate effects way above and beyond what we now have:
RWers don't even accept climate change as a threat.
Olga Kanorskaya wrote: A greater danger is in the well itself. If no cracks reaching the adjacent layers appear during fracking, everything is fine. If one of the cracks reaches the adjacent layer, leaking of methane or propane into another layer is possible. Gas can accumulate there and nobody can exactly predict when and where it will come to the surface.
RWers don't even accept climate change as a threat.

If people are happy with fracking taking place near where they live then they should read this assesment from the Pacific Institute before making up their mind and giving it a thumbs up. It's very comprehensive and takes a bit of time to get through it but it may be worth it.
