Israeli biogas digesters energise isolated Palestinian village

BEIT YANAI, Israel, Aug 24 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - P alestinian villagers living in desolate, off-grid areas in the West Bank have begun using Israeli-made biogas generators that supply free, clean energy by gobbling up organic waste. The portable, household "anaerobic digesters" made by Israeli start-up company HomeBioGas turn food leftovers and manure into methane for cooking and lighting.

They can be taken along if people living in ramshackle huts or tent dwellers, such as local Bedouin, decide to relocate or move home.

"HomeBioGas has invented this simple digester that can easily be assembled and transported," said Palestinian engineer Amer Rabayah, who coordinates installation of the devices.

While Israelis water their lawns, irrigate crops and swim in Olympic-sized pools, Palestinian communities a few kilometers away are literally dying of thirst.

This crisis has become the norm for Palestinians for decades now, though its severity continues to increase as water becomes more scarce. The UN estimates that the Gaza Strip will be uninhabitable by 2020.

Hope they are moveable for when they are thrown off the land for settlers.

This project was possible due to over half a million pounds funding from the EU and support from the Peres Centre for Peace.
The Peres Centre for Peace were denied tax exemption status by the Israeli authorities because the refused to stop funding the training for doctors from Gaza and the West bank in Isreali hospitals and within Gaza and the West Bank.

Tax examption for settlers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   And they pretend they want peace, they want Palestine that's what they want.  Friggin Melanie Phillips on twitter tonight actually said to me that Palestine was pledged to Jews through an international treaty in 1920.  Not Israel as it started out, but PALESTINE in total.
