Holy frickin' moley (re: most users ever online)

I have no idea how this happened -- or how it took me over a month to notice this -- but:
Any ideas as to why? That was the day of the Chattanooga recruiting station attacks by Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez, so far that's the only reason I can find that would draw so much traffic. It completely blows away our previous record of a puny 399 from about a year before.
Most users ever online was 2266 on Thu 16 Jul 2015 - 14:27

No doubt! Still, I wish I knew what caused the traffic spike. I'm going to dig into this a little deeper.
