Accents Ranked By Attractiveness In YouGov Poll

New research has rated the top 12 main accents in the British Isles by attractiveness – and the results may surprise you.
YouGov asked 2,018 adults to rate English dialects from a scale of very attractive, fairly attractive, fairly unattractive, very unattractive, neither or 'don't know.'
According to the results, the most beguiling accent is Southern Irish, with Received Pronunciation a close second.

Languishing at the bottom of the charts are Mancunian, Scouse and Brummie.
Will Dahlgreen of YouGov said: “First impressions of unearned features, such as accents, still have an impact on success in employment, social life and elsewhere.”
He adds: “There are some vast differences in perceived attractiveness of accents by age. The West Country accent is considered the most attractive to over-60s.

Not surprised most picked the Irish accent.

Do not think that included Eire Eddie but again it is the Celtic accents that stand out.

Love the British accents. But I was surprised to learn that Latin Americans don't like them; too abrupt, clipped and harsh.

Latins say they like the liquid sound of Spanish...and for them, American and Canadian English is much more pleasing, with longer, flatter vowels.

Of course, that's just the ones I talked to. Spanish also has quite a range, with rapid, staccato of Puerto Rico, and the long, languid musical Mexican.

And let's not get into French in Quebec. How do you manage an aspirated consonant with Parisienne??

They say Geordies are just Scots with their braines basshed in. I don't believe that but I accept the results.

Yea and scots one is rather nice too

Love Geordie, brings a smile to my face, and an Edinburgh accent is warm and soft.  (I'm not sucking up, had a friend with an Ediburgh accept, he could have read me the telephone book and I'd have been happy).   OH has a Highland accent and it's what attracted me to him in the first place.

Man that accent can be funny!!
Everytime they criticise a dish it's either:

Dddrar-eee (dry)

Sor-geee (soggy)

Blair-nd (bland)

But whatever it is, it isn't "as gooood as marne"
