Fox guest encourages female host to quit, have babies
Fox News ran a segment entitled “You Do Need A Husband!” on Sunday. Their guest, founder of the site ‘Women for Men’ Suzanne Venker, was on to argue that women are trying too hard to reduce their reliance on men. Her appearance followed up on her article “Why women still need husbands,” published Friday on Fox’s website.
In the piece, Venker argues that women won’t find fulfillment trying to balance a relationship and family with full-time work. “Financial independence is a great thing,” she writes, “but you can’t take your paycheck to bed with you. And there’s nothing empowering about being beholden to an employer when what you really want is to have a baby. ”
...
Kooiman then got personal with Venker, asking her for “some words of wisdom:”
KOOIMAN: I fit into that category perfectly. I’m single. I’m 29 years old. I’m very career-oriented. What is your advice in just a couple sentences?
VENKER: My advice is, as the years go on and you find that you want, if you do, to get married and settle down, to understand time is going to be your greatest enemy. Not your husband, not men, not the government, not your employers. It’s time, there’s just not enough time in the day to do everything. So if you learn to embrace that side of yourself that isn’t about work — in other words, the nurturing side, the motherhood, all of that — it’s okay to let your husband bring home that full-time income so you can have more of a balanced life. And we should really be thanking men for this, not saying they’re in our way or not doing enough.

Re: Fox guest encourages female host to quit, have babies
part of the problem which is never discussed
is what about the women that would like to be stay at home wives/mothers?
the economic reality is that if most households have dual income any house hold without it will suffer (unless it has one earning more than double average) to get a home now banks are asking what do you AND your partner earn, so the choice to be a traditional mother/wife is taken away from the vast majority of the middle and lower classes women by the newly created economic requirement of a dual income households just to get by.
because most families bring home 2 paychecks the cost of living has risen to the value of 2 paychecks. So now a woman is not bringing in something additional if she woks, it goes to meet the normal living costs. which means that if a woman doesn't work her familiy struggles to meet normal living costs.
Regardless, People need to get over the idea that there is a one size fits all policy out there for any gender, race, religion etc

Indeed. It's not about the choice, it's about the taking away of choices, telling people what to do with their lives, whatnot.
What I think is so funny about some of the women who try to tell other women to stay at home and be "traditional" mothers is that they're among the biggest careerists out there. Like this lady, who is, no, wait a minute -- she's not this Venker woman's aunt, no way! :D

here is the thing
the choice is gone, either way.
If most women choose to work (they are here), then all women have to work (or be very poor) the traditional option is gone for most socio-economic groups. Personally I am of the opinion Mothers are more importants than female professionals and I have plenty of Friends that would love to be stay at home mums but their husbands don't earn enough and a household costs 2 wages to run now days. So to allow the female professional we deny most Mothers the option of raising their own kids. And it is not like Most women have great jobs (most people dont) working in retail or fast food so your family has enough money to survive is not an option most people would choose to take but are forced to because cost of living is relative to the houshold income and those professional women vastly increase the statistical household income. All this leads to an ever increasing gap between the haves and the have nots.
