India’s Christians concerned about growing attacks on religious minorities
NEW DELHI (RNS) Each day, children on their way to Mount Carmel School pass through gates under the watch of armed security guards, and now city police officers who stop there on government orders after a nearby Catholic convent and school were broken into. The vandals stole money, tampered with security cameras and ransacked the principal’s office on Feb. 13. The crime itself was relatively minor, but it rippled through other Christian schools. The attack was the sixth this year in an ongoing series targeting Christian communities and schools across India. It was also the turning point for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the growing safety concerns of India’s minority Christian community. Modi immediately asked the Delhi police commissioner to investigate the attacks, and he addressed a Christian community, saying, “Government will not allow any religious group, belonging to the majority or the minority, to incite hatred against others overtly or covertly. Mine will be a government that gives equal respect to all religions.”

It seems it is starting to get very ugly and dangerous in India for many minority religious groups. There is always something very worrying when a ruling party mixes nationalism with religion to form an ideology behind this, of which we have seen happen before in the last century.

It's really not, you just have to be intolerant of people hurting one another or trampling other people's rights, and leave the rest of it alone.
Re: India’s Christians concerned about growing attacks on religious minorities
so does intolerance cause all the trouble ..?

Not at all, most of the trouble is caused by scarcity of resources and wealth, and the competition over them. Intolerance is usually invoked by greedy leaders who want to divide people against one another in the hopes of preventing one group from sharing in the wealth. It's one of the basic principles of warfare -- an army tries to dehumanize the enemy so that it doesn't feel so bad about killing its people:
A good illustration of this is how countries that have more equal income distribution also have lower crime rates: http://www.yesmagazine.org/happiness/want-the-good-life-your-neighbors-need-it-too

If all people have the ability to get along with each other, what is really stopping them from doing so?
The answer.
Nothing

Never claimed that.
I said, what is really stopping people getting along?
You are adding reasons why humans allow themselves to let negative emtions overcome what is right through things like greed.
The reality is nothing.
People use poor reasoning to incite hate and violence.
Of course in some situations when your family is under a real direct threat, you will of course defend them from such people who incite and use violence, but again as a concept if people have the ability to get along with each other, there is no reason for them not to.
You already get along with some people do you not?

it's always about money... that's all that seems to matter in this world..Fuzzy Zack wrote:Modi is part of the RSS movement - which a Hindu form of Nazism.
Unfortunately world leaders including from the UK want to do business with this man, all for the sake of money.
