Texas Governor Greg Abbott and wife Cecilia paid just $104 in federal income taxes for 2014, their joint tax return shows.

The Abbotts earned a total of $131,251 in income for 2014, on which they claimed $102,249 in deductions for property taxes and mortgage interest paid on their million-dollar home, as well as $4,495 in charitable donations.

The Abbotts also claimed another $11,850 in exemptions, leaving the first couple of Texas a total taxable income of $17,152.

Their resulting tax bill for 2014: $104 – about .079 percent of their combined total income.

The governor's income was made mostly through Abbott's work as the state's attorney general. But excluded from that sum is the more than $100,000 Abbott receives each year in monthly payments for a settlement from a falling tree that left him paralyzed in Houston in 1986. He also gets lump sums of several hundred thousand dollars every three years.
