It's been written about.  Conservatives can only win when the LW fooks up somehow.  They are the default when the public gets pissed-off enough at Labour.

Tony Blair, likabel tho he may be, was such a fook-up by fawning all over the American right, and leading Britain into a stupid, purposeless war.
