Anti austerity riot in London

Hundreds of masked Anonymous protesters descended on Buckingham Palace and Parliament Square in London as part of a worldwide march against austerity cuts.
A fire was started just yards from the gates of the royal palace and fireworks were reportedly thrown as protesters threw glass bottles during clashes with police on Tuesday night.
Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square and the Victoria Memorial near the palace were damaged during the demonstrations.
A fire was started near the Victoria Memorial, where at least one man and woman were seen being taken away by officers. Fireworks were also reportedly thrown towards the palace.

Austerity is a purely ideological solution with no basis in reality. There's ample evidence that even the New Deal spending wasn't quite enough to lift the U.S. out of the Great Depression; that it was actually the MASSIVE spending for WWII that finally did the trick.

Of course, after that the U.S. paid down its war debt really quickly and entered decades of prosperity. Because when your country is big enough and influential enough, debt really, truly doesn't matter that much.

Britain owed lots of money to the US after WW2?....They paid it off though?

Mind you......Had the US not entered the war towards the end of WW2...We would have lost and Europe would have been run by a load of fascists! affraid

OR ... La Resistance would have become a multi-country movement fighting a pan-European civil war, maybe. I don't think the Nazis would have been able to handle the likely widespread insurrections.
