Israel bans renowned doctor and human rights activist Mads Gilbert from entering Gaza for life

Israel has banned Norwegian doctor and human rights activist Mads Gilbert from entering Gaza for life.

Gilbert, a professor at the University Hospital of North Norway, where he has worked since 1976, earned international renown for his philanthropic work in late 2008, during Israel’s Operation Cast Lead, an attack that, according to Israeli human rights organization B’Tselem, killed roughly 1,400 Gazans, including almost 800 civilians, 350 of whom were children.

The aid worker, along with fellow Norwegian doctor Erik Fosse, decided to volunteer in Gaza as soon as he heard that bombing had started, on December 27, 2008. Thanks to diplomatic and economic support (in the sum of $1 million dollar of emergency funding from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs), the two physicians managed to arrive in the strip by December 30.

The Israeli government prevented all international press from entering Gaza during Cast Lead (a documentary, The War Around Us, was made about the only two foreign reporters in the strip at the time), in what Gilbert called Israel’s insidious “PR plan.” The doctor, as one of the only international aid workers in Gaza, thus devoted considerable time to speaking with local Palestinian news outlets, some of whom were reporting on behalf of foreign networks including BBC, CNN, ABC, and Al Jazeera.

BBC aired an interview with Gilbert, conducted in the hospital. The questions asked, and the answers garnered, were eerily similar to those he would give just five years later, during Operation Protective Edge. The interviewer began asking him to respond to Israel’s claims that it was not targeting civilians, that it was only attacking Hamas militants. Gilbert called the claim “an absolutely stupid statement” and explained that, among the hundreds of patients he had seen at that point, only two had been fighters. The “large majority” were women, children, and men civilians. “These numbers are contradictory to everything Israel says,” he reported.

Gilbert drew attention to the fact that the overflowing hospital did not have enough supplies to treat all of its patients, and censured the international community for doing nothing to assist them. Israel would not let in foreign doctors, and yet Palestinians were “dying waiting for surgery.” “This is a complete disaster,” he remarked, calling it “the worst man-made disaster” he could think of. “There are injuries you just don’t want to see in this world.”
Operation Protective Edge

In 2008 and 2009, Gilbert treated Palestinians who had been grievously wounded by Israel’s use of experimental and illegal chemical weapons, including white phosphorous, dense inert metal explosives (DIME) munitions, and flechette shells. In July 2014, in the midst of Israel’s most recent attack on Gaza, Gilbert spoke with Electronic Intifada, revealing that he saw indications of renewed use of DIME weapons and flechettes.

While volunteering in Shifa hospital this past summer, Gaza’s principal medical facility, Gilbert penned an open letter, lamenting the unspeakable horrors the Israeli military was instigating.

[Israel’s] “ground invasion” of Gaza resulted in scores and carloads with maimed, torn apart, bleeding, shivering, dying… All sorts of injured Palestinians, all ages, all civilians, all innocent.

The heroes in the ambulances and in all of Gaza’s hospitals are working 12 to 24‑hour shifts, grey from fatigue and inhuman workloads (without payment in Shifa for the last four months). They care, triage, try to understand the incomprehensible chaos of bodies, sizes, limbs, walking, not walking, breathing, not breathing, bleeding, not bleeding humans. Humans!

Ashy grey faces – Oh no! not one more load of tens of maimed and bleeding. We still have lakes of blood on the floor in the emergency room, piles of dripping, blood-soaked bandages to clear out – oh – the cleaners, everywhere, swiftly shovelling the blood and discarded tissues, hair, clothes, cannulas – the leftovers from death – all taken away… to be prepared again, to be repeated all over.

More than 100 cases came to Shifa in the last 24 hours. Enough for a large well-trained hospital with everything, but here – almost nothing: electricity, water, disposables, drugs, operating-room tables, instruments, monitors – all rusted and as if taken from museums of yesterday’s hospitals. But they do not complain, these heroes.

Now, once more treated like animals by “the most moral army in the world.”

The doctor directed one heart-wrenching passage to President Obama, writing “Mr Obama – do you have a heart? I invite you – spend one night – just one night – with us in Shifa. I am convinced, 100 per cent, it would change history. Nobody with a heart and power could ever walk away from a night in Shifa without being determined to end the slaughter of the Palestinian people.”

Israel later attacked Shifa hospital. Doctors Without Borders (MSF) “strongly condemn[ed]” the incursion, saying it “demonstrate[d] how civilians in Gaza have nowhere safe to go.” MSF director Marie-Noëlle Rodrigue stated, in an official statement, “When the Israeli army orders civilians to evacuate their houses and their neighborhoods, where is there for them to go? Gazans have no freedom of movement and cannot take refuge outside Gaza. They are effectively trapped.” Shifa was one of the over 10 medical facilities Israel bombed in its 50-day offensive.
Human Rights Work

In 2000, Gilbert made headlines for saving the life of a skier who had been trapped in sub-zero water. She had been pronounced clinically dead, with a body temperature of 57 °F, but Gilbert managed to revive her. For his service, Gilbert was awarded the Northern Norwegian of the Year award.

Before Operation Protective Edge commenced in early July 2014, Gilbert toured medical and health facilities and individual homes in Gaza, researching for a United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) report on the dire state of the strip’s health sector. He wrote of “overstretched” health facilities, widespread physical and psychological trauma, “a deep financial crisis,” a lack of needed medical supplies, and a “severe energy crisis.” He also noted the “devastating results of the blockade imposed by the Government of Israel,” with rampant poverty, a 38.5% unemployment rate, food insecurity in at least 57% of households, and inadequate access to clean water. All of these already extreme ills were only exacerbated by the July-August Israeli assault on Gaza, an onslaught that left roughly 2,200 Palestinians dead, including over 1,500 civilians, more than 500 of whom were children.

Gilbert is not the only one Israel has recently prevented from entering Gaza. In August, just after the end of its military assault, Israel refused to allow Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, the world’s leading human rights organizations, from entering the strip, impeding them from conducting war crimes investigations. The organizations had been requesting access for over a month, before Israel had even begun its ground invasion of Gaza, yet were continuously prevented from doing so, Israeli journalist Amira Hass reported in Haaretz, “using various bureaucratic excuses.”

Israel has banned Human Right Watch investigators from entering Gaza since 2006; Amnesty International has been refused access since 2012. Dr. Mads Gilbert is the latest esteemed persona non grata to be added to this growing list.
Solidarity, Not Pity

Other aid workers and medical professionals have faced even worse consequences for volunteering to help Palestinians. In August, Israeli occupation forces killed a social worker. In the same month, as the Israeli military engaged in a campaign to target and openly murder Palestinian civilians who spoke Hebrew, Israeli forces assassinated volunteers working with the Palestine Red Crescent, a non-profit humanitarian organization, part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

A common myth suggests that Israel ended its occupation of Gaza with its 2005 disengagement. The state’s ability to ban, and even kill, internationally recognized human rights organizations and doctors—not to mention food, construction equipment, and medical supplies—from entering Palestinian territory, however, demonstrates that Gaza is by no means autonomous. Israel’s siege of the strip is clearly a continuation of its 47-year-long illegal military occupation.

As legal scholar Noura Erakat explains

Despite removing 8,000 settlers and the military infrastructure that protected their illegal presence, Israel maintained effective control of the Gaza Strip and thus remains the occupying power as defined by Article 47 of the Hague Regulations. To date, Israel maintains control of the territory’s air space, territorial waters, electromagnetic sphere, population registry and the movement of all goods and people.

Palestinians have yet to experience a day of self-governance. Israel immediately imposed a siege upon the Gaza Strip when Hamas won parliamentary elections in January 2006 and tightened it severely when Hamas routed Fatah in June 2007. The siege has created a “humanitarian catastrophe” in the Gaza Strip. Inhabitants will not be able to access clean water, electricity or tend to even the most urgent medical needs. The World Health Organization explains that the Gaza Strip will be unlivable by 2020. Not only did Israel not end its occupation, it has created a situation in which Palestinians cannot survive in the long-term.

In his July interview with Electronic Intifada, Gilbert made it clear that his work as a medical professional cannot be done—the Palestinian people cannot live healthy, yet alone free, lives—while Israel continues its illegal siege and occupation. “As a doctor, my prescription is very clear. Number one, stop the bombing, and that means stop Israel from bombing civilians and indiscriminately hitting families. Number two, lift the siege. And number three, find a political solution,” he stated.

In a late October discussion with the Daily Targum, Gilbert encouraged Americans to do what they can to speak out against Israel’s illegal occupation and blockade of the Palestinian territories, and to pressure their government to stop its indefatigable support for Israeli crimes.

At present, the US provides Israel with over $3.1 billion of military aid per year. In the past 52 years, over $100 billion US tax dollars have been given to the country in military aid alone.

“You are the change-makers,” Gilbert told American readers. “The key to the change when it comes to the occupation of Palestine lies in the United States.” “Solidarity, not pity,” he said, is the solution.

A despicable liar gets what he deserves

Israel has banned the despicable liar Dr. Mads Gilbert from entering Gaza. Forever. This had to be done. Gilbert’s accusations of war crimes and atrocities committed by the Israeli Defense Forces are taken as gospel by drooling ignoramuses, and they’re cynically used by governments to bolster their Jew-hating policies.

That name tag perfectly illustrates the cheap fraudulence of Mads Gilbert and the Palestinian Ministry of Death Health. Gilbert provides comic relief with this moronic statement.
The fundamental reason for the ill health of the population in Gaza is of course the siege and the bombing.

Sinking like a stone!
Israel began a blockade of Gaza in June of 2007, after Hamas took over and did things like this.

That’s the first time I’ve seen real tears from a Palestinian man, and he’s crying as he remembers Israelis saving him in the middle of a battle.

Refer to the chart above. Once again Israelis prove that they can’t do anything right. They ethnically cleansed themselves—not the Palestinians—out of Gaza in 2005; under their version of genocide, the Palestinian population has grown dramatically; and now their siege increases life expectancy.
As for Mads Gilbert’s assertion that Israeli bombing is a fundamental cause of ill health in Gaza, he’s wrong of course. The fundamental cause of ill health in Gaza is a love of fatty foods and smoking. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, these are the top four killers of Palestinians, in descending order:
cardiovascular diseases
cerebral vascular diseases
cancer
respiratory diseases
I don’t see Jewish bombs in there.
Mads Gilbert simply can’t tell the truth. He’s been saying since 2006 that the Israeli Defense Forces use dense inert metal explosives (DIME), when in reality this weapon has never seen combat. Even if it had been, Gilbert’s claims are ludicrous.

DIME are not “internationally banned.” There isn’t a single “internationally banned” weapon on earth. The 1925 Geneva Protocol bans the use of chemical and biological weapons. Well, the following nations have refused to sign it.

You can ban whatever you want. Unless the entire planet agrees, it’s not internationally banned.
Mads Gilbert admits in the above video that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. His own words prove that.
“Large chunks of flesh, of muscles were cut away. We didn’t find any shrapnel and [the wounds] were delivering a strange fume. Gradually we came to understand these must have been the new DIME weapons developed by the US Air Force together with the Israelis,” he said…
“We had a large number of patients who came in with these horrendous injuries where arms and legs were cut off as though a huge axe had chopped off their limbs with a direct immense force, cutting through skin, muscles and bones. Bones would be shattered and completely cut off,” Gilbert recounted.  “In addition we saw very, very destructive burns coming from some extreme temperature that turned skin, muscle and even bones into charcoal.”
He’s lying. DIME use micro-fragments of tungsten to minimize damage. That’s all. No strange fumes, no limbs cut off as though by a huge ax, no charcoal. I won’t post them, but the Palestinians take photos of decayed corpses and bodies they’ve partially dissected and then present them to the press as victims of these terrible experimental weapons. A DIME warhead explosion looks like this.

The blast and fragmentation effects are extremely limited. Only in the mind of Mads Gilbert would a weapon designed to minimize damage be responsible for hideous fictional wounds that smell of chemicals and don’t heal.
Mads Gilbert hates Jews so much that he blabbers out hilariously stupid accusations. He said the Israelis were using “nail bombs, which are illegal.” Palestinian X-rays proved this crime…but Mads Gilbert never produced such images. Also, Israel has a First World military. Nail bombs are improvised explosive devices (IEDs), weapons of terrorists.

In “An Open Letter for the People of Gaza,” he reaches levels of delirium that make me think he’s an abuser of hallucinogenic drugs.
We challenge the perversity of a propaganda that justifies the creation of an emergency to masquerade a massacre, a so-called “defensive aggression.” In reality it is a ruthless assault of unlimited duration, extent, and intensity.
Propaganda? So the thousands of Hamas rockets, missiles, and mortars fired into Israel didn’t actually exist? There were no attack tunnels through which Hamas terrorists infiltrated Israel? And the “ruthless assault” was of “unlimited duration, extent, and intensity?” I beg to differ, Doc. All Israeli wars are short, and the assault was limited to Hamas targets. As for the intensity, when Israelis use unlimited force, you’ll know it.
We’re told that 2100 Palestinians died in Operation Protective Edge. I’ve crunched the numbers given by both Palestinian and Israeli sources.

That doesn’t include the hundreds killed by the over 1000 IEDs that Hamas detonated and the 875 terrorist rockets that fell inside Gaza. The IDF accidentally killed a STATISTICALLY NONEXISTENT NUMBER OF CIVILIANS. Mads Gilbert’s version of events bears no resemblance to reality.
This is the third large scale military assault on Gaza since 2008. Each time the death toll is borne mainly by innocent people in Gaza, especially women and children under the unacceptable pretext of Israel eradicating political parties and resistance to the occupation and siege they impose.
No. The death toll is borne mainly by terrorists and Palestinian civilians killed by terrorists. And why is there an Israeli “siege” in the first place? Does this ring a bell?

Jew-haters always strip the context from Israel’s actions. When you’re reduced to lying, it means you know you’re wrong.
People in Gaza are resisting this aggression because they want a better and normal life and, even while crying in sorrow, pain, and terror, they reject a temporary truce that does not provide a real chance for a better future. A voice under the attacks in Gaza is that of Um Al Ramlawi who speaks for all in Gaza: “They are killing us all anyway—either a slow death by the siege, or a fast one by military attacks. We have nothing left to lose—we must fight for our rights, or die trying.”
If Um Al Ramlawi does indeed speak for all in Gaza, that explains everything. They’re off their rockers. Fighting for their rights? Fine. You have the right to wage war against a vastly superior force that will mop the earth with you. Palestinians refuse to accept that actions have consequences. Apparently the only way to educate them is with 2000-lb bombs.
Under the pretext of eliminating terrorism, Israel is trying to destroy the growing Palestinian unity.
If the Palestinians are unified, I’d hate to see what happens when they’re not. Oh, wait: I have seen what happens when they’re not.

Not a peep from Mads Gilbert. He gives not the tiniest damn about Palestinians. They are simply instruments he uses in his lifelong war against Jews.
We witnessed targeted weaponry used indiscriminately and on children and we constantly see that so-called intelligent weapons fail to be precise, unless they are deliberately used to destroy innocent lives.
This is infantile ranting. Precision-guided weapons fail, except when they’re used on innocent civilians? Don’t forget that this lunacy was published by the Lancet, a British medical journal you no longer have to care about. Mads Gilbert is the caliber of person who write for the Lancet.
Additionally, should the use of gas be further confirmed, this is unequivocally a war crime for which, before anything else, high sanctions will have to be taken immediately on Israel with cessation of any trade and collaborative agreements with Europe.
In poker, the unconscious sign someone gives that he or she has a winning or losing hand is called a “tell.” The tell of totally committed Jew-haters is when they accuse Israel of perpetrating the same crimes that Nazis committed against Jews.
 
 It’s 100 percent consistent. Every maniacal Jew-hater I’ve encountered has eventually said that the Israelis gas the Palestinians or want to send them to the gas chambers. Pure projection.
I’m tickled pink that Mad Gilbert had been banned from entering Gaza. Now he can seethe impotently from the sidelines. He’s one less implacably destructive mental patient Israel has to worry about.

The lie that Israel uses “banned weapons”

What I like best about the Internet is that you can use it to discover the truth. I can now say that virtually every accusation made against Israel is a lie. Most of these lies can be debunked in less than a minute, which demonstrates the caliber of the people who repeat such falsehoods. This post is about the lie that Israel uses “banned weapons” in its periodic wars with Islamic terrorists.
The current fiction making the rounds is this.
Israel has used three internationally banned weapons in its recent attacks on the Gaza Strip, a military expert said.
Safwat Al-Zayat, a retired Brigadier General in the Egyptian Army and an expert in military affairs, told the Anadolu news agency that “Israel’s use of such internationally banned weapons is a continuation of the approach it adopted in Operation Cast Lead in 2008/2009.”
Al-Zayat added that Israel used Dense Inert Metal Explosive (DIME), which had already been used in Operation Cast Lead. DIME weapons spread inert metal atoms that penetrate the human body and are difficult to get out of human tissue.
He added that DIME munitions are used in the form of bombs that are propelled by droned[sic]…
The second internationally banned weapon used by Israel in its current war is armour piercing bombs. According to Al-Zayat, they cause big explosions and result in a large number of civilian deaths…
Al-Zayat said the third internationally prohibited weapon used by Israel in Gaza is white phosphorous, which mixes with oxygen to form a transparent wax and causes fires and thick, white smoke.
We’ll take these charges one a a time, beginning with the last.

White phosphorus

Israel never once used weaponized white phosphorus in urban combat. The world decided in 2009 to accept the transparent lie that the M825A1 smoke shell is an incendiary weapon, but that just means that much of the world is corrupt, insane, and poisoned with Jew-hate. Israel didn’t even use the M825A1 smoke shell over Gaza in Operation Protective Edge. This is what the explosion of the shell looks like. It’s called the “Medusa.”

If you can find me a photo of a Medusa over an urban setting in Gaza during Operation Protective Edge, I’ll pay you $1000.
Also, white phosphorus is not internationally banned.
While the use of the material is not specifically banned, it is covered by Protocol III of the 1980 Convention on Conventional Weapons, which prohibits use of the substance as an incendiary weapon against civilian populations and in air attacks against military forces in civilian areas.
The Israelis don’t use weaponized white phosphorus against civilians, and firing M825A1 smoke shells does not constitute a white-phosphorus air attack. Nevertheless, the IDF no longer uses the M825A1 shell over populated areas. So retired Brigadier General Safwat Al-Zayat is lying on two counts.

Armor-piercing bombs

I have no idea where Al-Zayat got the idea that “armor-piercing bombs” are internationally banned. Here’s the full text of the 1980 Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons Which May be Deemed to be Excessively Injurious or to Have Indiscriminate Effects. Find “armor-piercing bombs” in it.
Besides, the Israelis often drop inert concrete bombs instead of explosive aerial munitions. You can tell because there’s very little fragmentation damage to Gaza.

The Israelis used a new bomb in the war, the MPR-500 Multi-Purpose Rigid Bomb.

It was designed for operations that might not fit the American MK-82 500-lb (227-kg) bomb, the MK-83 1000-lb (460-kg) bomb, and the MK-84 2000-lb (907-kg) bomb. The MPR-500 can cut through 3.3 feet (1 meter) of concrete or four floors. This is how it reduces collateral damage; it explodes deep inside the target.
However, it produces 26,000 metal fragments. That’s why Israel makes such extensive use of inert cement bombs. No fragments means far fewer civilian casualties.
It’s simply a lie that armor-piercing bombs are banned. Also, why would the Israelis drop specialized, hardened, much more expensive munitions when a cheaper cement bomb would do?
And now the Big Lie.

Dense inert-metal explosives (DIME)

There’s a Norwegian doctor running around, making utterly false claims that Israel uses experimental dense inert-metal explosives (DIME) on civilians. Dr. Mads Gilbert has been making this accusation since the 2006 Lebanon war. The best thing to do is to let him debunk himself with his own words.

We’ll begin with the obvious: The guy in the bed is uninjured. He has two casts on his arms, and he lost both legs due to an aerial bombing, but he doesn’t have a single scratch on his chest, neck, or face. Absolutely impossible.

And he’s grown no stubble. Do they shave him and trim his stylish little beard, as he lies there WITH NO LEGS?
The red arrow shows that the IV line isn’t hooked up to the patient, and the green arrow marks the huge gap between the man’s arm and the cast. It’s a slip-on cast, a prop. The guy got into bed right before they began filming. Hoo-ray for Pally-wood!
Now the blather from the video.
The bombing of Gaza was by no means “collective punishment.” The Israelis used precision-guided and inert munitions. If they wanted to collectively punish Gaza, they could’ve carpet bombed with the Israeli Air Force 210th Squadron, a unit equipped with the world’s only unmanned strategic bomber.

The Eitan UAV can carry up to 2000 pounds (907 kg) of bombs. Mads Gilbert is a buffoon. His claims about Israeli intentions and actions are the exact opposite of reality. And we can never forget that Palestinian casualty figures are complete fabrications.
In the Press TV video, the reporter says that Israel is using DIME weapons and that they’re internationally banned. Well, they’re not internationally banned. That’s a lie. And it’s absolutely certain that Israel isn’t using them, because nobody is. They’re still in the developmental stage. Finally, this Wikipedia article is full of misinformation that I’ll explain, but it gets this part right.
It is intended to limit the distance at which the explosion causes damage, to avoid collateral damage in warfare.
So now using a weapon intended to minimize civilian deaths is a war crime? This is what Jew-hate does to your brain. You end up unable to think.
 
Mads Gilbert admits that he knows nothing about munitions. So why is he offering his opinion? He says that DIME weapons intended for use in densely populated areas cause terrible injuries. Do you understand how insane that is? The point of the weapon is to reduce injuries.
Dr. Gilbert has been jabbering about DIME weapons for a while.

Pure madness. The DIME warhead isn’t some kind of super-weapon that does things never before seen by medical science.
Upon detonation, the carbon-fiber warhead case disintegrates into small non-lethal fibers with little or no metallic fragments, thus significantly reducing collateral damage to people and structures. The warhead explosive fill is a dense inert metal explosive containing fine tungsten particles to provide a ballasted payload with sufficient penetration mass. The tungsten displaces energetic material so as to reduce the total energetic used. The net results are higher dynamic energy impulse all within a small lethal footprint.
Read that again. Less energy is expended. The tungsten particles are physically incapable of causing the wounds Gilbert claims. Here’s a photo of a DIME weapon exploding.
 
The explosion has a smaller blast radius, and the fragments are particles. They can’t chop off limbs or strip lower bodies of their flesh. You can Google “DIME weapon wounds” if you want. Be prepared for the gruesome results. None of those photos are consistent with injury by particle. Those people were killed or wounded by fragments from bombs, mortar shells, and artillery. Many have burns.
It’s also clear from the photos that Palestinian “doctors” make wounds on corpses worse by enlarging them. They partially dissect the dead and then present them to the media. Having seen how ghoulish Palestinian culture is, I have no doubt that they do this.
Finally, the DIME monomaniacs claim that these weapons cause cancer. That’s a lie. They’re conflating tungsten with heavy-metal tungsten alloy (HMTA). He has no proof, but he makes the charge anyway. When you’re Israeli, you’re guilty until proven innocent.

If you stop the video at 18:50, you will have seen nobody die. At 18:52 is the burned corpse of Lieutenant al-Kasasbeh, whose body was doused with gasoline and burned postmortem.
