If YOU had to create a religion, what would be your Ten Commandments or rules?
For the sake of this thread we will call it a "religion"
We know the obvious commandments and for the sake of this question, we can merge "Honouring your father and mother" into "being nice to everyone" for example.
What I mean is, some things are a given.
Here are mine, in no particular order:
1) Always live and love to the best of your abilities:
Remember, you set your own standards, so live and love by them.
2) Always communicate with a true and open heart:
Never forget to talk as its your very best tool. Use words wisely as words can heal and words can help people understand you. If you're misunderstood, explain.
3) Let the winds dance between you and others:
Allow space and freedom for others to gain their own perspective and learn their own lessons in their own time. Advise, but don't control another's thoughts.
4) Know yourself first:
Always make yourself, your primary lesson. You are never done knowing "you".
5) Stand on your head:
Gain new perspectives and see things from a different angle to keep your life and opinions fresh. It will bring about much-needed change when you need it most.
6) Give yourself the present:
Live in the present; don't wallow in what was or what might be. You only have now.
7) Don't try to push the river:
Let it go and let it flow, relinquish control over what you cannot control, including people and events.
8 ) Heal the world with one good deed a day:
Small or large, it all makes a difference to someone. This includes forgiveness and affection.
9) Invest time in your children:
Don't Rush them, don't hurry them, don't ignore them. Teach them the commandments and lead by example.
10) March to your own drumbeat:
Be yourself. Always.

These are not commandments just ideals to live by as commands can allow people to then have consequences if you do not follow them:
1.) Learn to except and love who you are.
2.) Treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself.
3.) Learn to forgive yourself so you are able to forgive others as we all make mistakes.
4.) Respect the well-being and equality of people which does not conflict with your own and others well-being and equality.
5.) Love giving more than you need to receive.
6.) Embrace life.
7.) Be completely honest no matter if being honest may hurt feelings it is better to be truthful.
8.) Help those less fortunate than yourself.
9.) Be supportive of others.
10.) Do not confuse lust with love

Excellent points
Particularly the one about love and lust - think how many broken hearts that would save, not to mention unwanted babies lol

You choose some I would have, which is no bad thing and had to think of others instead lol
I think number 4 is key to then open the door to the rest.
I really liked them Eddie
Interesting thread and be interested to see what others post.

All men are equal, none are born worse than me, none are born better than me.

Nice thread Eds, I particularly like your numbers 5 and 6, living for today is massively important in my opinion and seeing things from the view of others is the only way to truly understand different types of people. not sure 7 always applies though
I'm going to give this a shot, though entirely off my head:
1. Treat other people how you yourself would want to be treated. Honestly I could stop there as I think this is the golden rule and unsurprisingly it is included in the world's oldest religion (and predates Christianity by a long way).
2. Always believe you could do better, in all aspects of life- it's the only way you will improve yourself.
3. Always accept there ARE things you don't know about everything, and that you can learn new things from anyone.
4. Don't ever believe you are intrinsically better than anyone else- everyone is equal and should be treated as such.
5. Always try and understand why people do the things they do and think the way they think.
6. Don't allow yourself to blindly follow, support or worship any kind of institution (political party, religion, nation).
7. Question everything.
8. Do not turn a blind eye to people doing bad or wicked things.
9. Do not allow yourself to feel a way you do not want to feel.
10. Be who you want to be, not what others want you to be (unless being who you want to be breaks Rule 1!).

Excellent list les
Number seven on my list is actually quite an important one. Some people try to control too much and that makes them live in the future - you can't control something that hasn't yet happened?

Wow, daunting challenge -- especially after so many good ones have been listed. I'll take a crack at it, though:
1) Never treat life like a burden.
2) Hone your skills and make yourself useful to society.
3) Try to leave people in a better mood than they were in when you found them.
4) Protect the powerless.
5) Never stop talking to people who disagree with you.
6) Explore the world.
7) Be friendly to strangers.
8 ) Seek out your passions.
9) Nurture a living thing.
10) Always seek to widen your perspective.
