Police release footage of attack on baby in branch of Boots
CCTV film released in attempt to track down woman wearing a deerstalker who grabbed boy by throat in Strand, central London
A woman calmly walked into a chemist, reached into a pram and grabbed a one-year-old boy by the throat before saying “That baby would rather be dead” as his mother pushed her away.
Police have released CCTV footage from the incident after the reported daytime assault in Boots at the Strand in central London.
The baby was not injured because of the mother’s quick reaction, police said, but they have released the footage in an attempt to track down the woman, who is seen being escorted from the shop by a security guard seconds after the incident on 16 January.
The suspect is described as white, in her early 60s, chubby, with light hair and a boil on her face or eye deformity. She is thought to be about 1.58 metres (5ft 2in) tall and was dressed in a white, red and grey striped poncho and a deerstalker.
Police said the mother, who was looking at something on a shelf when the attacker approached, initially thought she was “going to just look and fuss over her baby”. But the mother is seen quickly grabbing the woman’s hand and moving the pram away from her. They said the mother was shaken after the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Surely this woman must be ill, hope they find her soon, for her sake as well as any babies she may come into contact with.

I think the mother was so surprised and it happened so quickly that by the time she checked the baby the woman was gone. However, I do think this woman much be ill from what she said.

Definitely not what you are suggesting! Had a dog who was attacked twice and became very aggressive, which was a form of mental illness brought on by the attacks and his reaction to them, they were very bad. Took two years, kept him muzzled and on a lead, gradually gave him back his confidence. For the next 8 years that were left of his life he loved everyone and everything, best mate a cat and he played with baby rabbits, every loved him. The mind of a person or a dog causes them to do things that they can't control, it's an illness, the same as a broken leg.

as for this woman...a symbol of all thats wrong with our system....

Well I agree with you about the dog vic. My mum has always had dogs, I grew up with them, but she has always said that if any of her dogs ever went for one of her grandchildren, or any child or person, she'd have it out down.
I would never ever trust a dog if it went for me or anyone else.
I don't think the woman should necessarily be institutionalised though? She definitely needs help and monitoring, but locking her away indefinitely?
No, that's not helping her or anyone else.

I said the dog became aggressive - towards other dogs - because it had been attacked and it's stomach and legs ripped open. And Wally never bit anyone, dog or human, but would growl and snarl at other dogs to keep them away because he was terrified of them. I slowly taught him that he could trust me to look after him around other dogs and gave him back his confidence.
Not the scenerio you were talking about.

What does it matter what the mental condition is? If this has been caused by a mental problem then she should be helped and given treatment. The stigma that people attach to those with mental health problems because they can't see what is happening, as they could with a broken bone, is something that should be confronted.

and in the meantime we have to wait for her to succeed in killing a baby before something is done ???
of course she should be helped and treated...IN A SECURE UNIT...
as a grand parent, if I had been with that child I would have struck back with extreme force, my defence in court (which is a strong one) would be "in defence of anothers life"

Of course in a secure unit, but a secure hospital unit.
No force was required, as you can see from the video.
