Capita lands spot on mega £5bn NHS commissioning deal
'Scale of opportunity huge'... for Capita – analysts

Outsourcing giant Capita is one of three major companies to be awarded a place on the £5bn Lead Provider Framework for Commissioning Support Services.
Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) will be required to re-procure many of their support services by April 2016 in order to comply with EU procurement law, which NHS England anticipates will mean between £3bn and £5bn of services will be procured through the framework.
The other two private sector consortia who've won a spot are business services company Mouchel and US healthcare technology company Optum.
Under the deal Capita will provide a wide range of support services, such as back office finance and HR, GP IT services, contracting, engagement and business intelligence.
It will also provide services for commissioners to support medicines procurement, the implementation of new national guidance and "analysis of data to identify efficiencies in medicine use".
Andy Parker, chief executive of Capita, said: "The breadth and scale of services that will be procured through the new framework will transform service commissioning for the NHS and other healthcare providers."
John O'Brien, analyst at TechMarketView, said Capita’s shares rose two per cent following the announcement. "The scale of the opportunity is huge," he said.
The deal also includes nine NHS "Commissioning Support Units" and their partners

Re: More privatisation of the NHS
Only because the Department of Health says they have to be put out for tender and not automatically given to the NHS provider, in which case EU regulations to the procurement come into force.
