Fantastic! Education should be a basic human right of any civilization that expects to survive.
Re: Kailash Satyarthi and Malala Yousafzai Are Awarded Nobel Peace Prize
Excellent choices, but how sad is it in his day and age, that two people have to fight against such discrimination, even to the point of their own lives threatened?

Go out and fight, have your life threatened, travel the world and stand up to some of the scariest people out there. I'm afraid nobody's going to award you anything besides an honorary beard for things you say on NewsFix ...

Re: Kailash Satyarthi and Malala Yousafzai Are Awarded Nobel Peace Prize
[ltr]Malala Yousafzai won a Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for her "struggle against the suppression of children" and her commitment to children's rights around the world.[/ltr]
[ltr]After surviving life-threatening gunshot wounds to the face by the Taliban almost exactly two years ago, the 17-year-old Pakistani girl took her fight for peace and gender equality to the world stage. She created the Malala Fund, which aims to empower girls everywhere through education.[/ltr]
[ltr]Here's a glance at five things the teenager did in 2014 that prove how deserving she is of the prestigious honor:[/ltr]
[ltr]1. Malala became a global voice for the Nigerian girls abducted by Boko Haram.
Malala met with Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan in July to raise awareness for the injustice, the Associated Press reported. She urged Jonathan to meet with parents of the 219 schoolgirls kidnapped by terrorist group Boko Haram, and further his commitment to bring the girls home safely. "My birthday wish this year is 'Bring Back Our Girls' now and alive," Malala said.[/ltr]
[ltr]2. Malala helped Syrian refugee children cross the border to safety.
In February, with help from her father, Malala and other team members from her fund helped hundreds of Syrian refugees leave their war-torn country behind and enter the safety of Jordan. When asked about the risks of danger aiding those refugees in need, Malala told CNN, "It's a risk to all of us if we ignore them."[/ltr]
[ltr]3. Malala helped young people have a voice among world education leaders.
The Global Partnership for Education, which works in low-income countries to ensure basic education for all, announced in June that a grant from the Malala Fund would support a first-ever youth delegation at a world education conference in Brussels. "I believe all countries can do more," Malala said, according to the organization. "Rich countries must do their part and keep their promises, and developing countries must give more of their own budgets to education."[/ltr]
[ltr]4. The Malala Fund made a long-term commitment to girls' education at CGI.
At this year's Clinton Global Initiative, Malala announced that her fund is pledging a$3 million multi-year commitment, in partnership with Echidna Giving, toward education in developing countries, according to ABC News. Some of those funds will go toward a girls' education summit this December.[/ltr]
[ltr]5. Malala's fight for literacy reached her mom.
Malala's global message on education became even more personal when the human rights advocate said her mother had learned how to read and write in August. "Our family shows an example to the world how things change with the help of awareness … and with the help of the importance of education," the 17-year-old said. "My father has also realized that his only job isn’t only to earn money, but also help the family."[/ltr]
[ltr]There are several ways you can help Malala continue her mission when it comes to educating our youth. Learn more here.[/ltr]

The Nobel prize (in any discipline but especially the peace prize) means nothing.
Yes it is terrible when people are happy in their lives I guess to you.
Western puppetry?
What is that?
Do you have problem with the western culture?
The one you were raised in?

Now you're just being emotional and ranting again.
You know exactly how politicians in the West are manipulating her and her family.
Your last 2 questions are plain stupid and indicative of you recent decline towards idiocy. But since you insist on impersonating Smelly, I will answer.
I never mentioned CULTURE. D'uh (there goes you emotions again). I was raised in both cultures, eastern and western. Neither is better. But I suppose you think Western culture is superior bit that is just your arrogance.
Debate conceded, as highlighted above.
Really please tell me how they are manipulating a young girl, shot by those wishing to deny her an education, of which she fought for her life, survived and now is calling upon western help to change poor view in some countries, where they badly discriminate against women?
By saying western, would mean culture, what other aspect could it be if political views are universal?
Well at present in the western culture, women actually have rights, not total equality but near to it, where on the other end of the scale in the Eastern culture, they are a tad behind the west who have progressed. That is the nicest way of putting it, as the reality is women in countless eastern cultures are treated appallingly and this worthy precipitant of this prize is a living proof of the massive uphill struggle it is to gain for women equal rights in the East. No one culture is superior to another, that is not being the claim, the fact is one is more advanced socially, than the other and the West wants to help people gain better rights.

Fuzzy Zack wrote:Debate conceded? Lol! What debate?
She's being lauded by the West and being groomed it's politicians. This is just obvious. But you are more than capable of looking that up.
Your last paragraph shows you are prejudice and a Western supremacist.
FYI - talking about Western politics doesn't not mean Western culture, you muppet. Lol! Nice try
When you have been drawn in to then post emotive responses about the other posters shows and exposes your reactions, when there is no need.
No my last sentence shows a reality you are now trying to dismiss. The reality is both have good aspects to their cultures, but at present not on women or homosexuals. That means the west is more socially more advanced, which would have much to do with the fact the west because of its wealth have used this to ensure many are educated, the East is only getting to that stage, they are still behind, not in all countries, some are as adavanced as the west, but many are still far behind.
What you are blatantly doing is ignoring the fact in the Eastern culture in many different ethnic groups, women are seen as second best, this could not be highlighted any better than to look at the problem of now male children being far more populous than girls in both India and China. It has provided the platform for a total disaster where many men will be left single unless they leave, because a culture has allowed for many within a society, to want a boy and not a girl.
Politics is universal, so again you are trying to poorly correct a bad error, you were talking about cultures, which neither is superior on except the west socially is more adavnced.
You can ignore the facts, the facts are women live under appalling conditions in the Eastern culture, to prove my point from my other thread:
As a third example, let's look at the Pakistani columnist Khuldun Shahid, whom I have frequently quoted, has an unmatched sense of humor when it comes to critiquing Islamic practices:
Your #MuslimahPride movement against #Femen was a slap on the collective face of Western imperialists who believe that Muslim women can’t fight for a cause. It was also a resounding reminder for the rest of the world that you have what it takes to spark a revolution. What the ignorant world does not realise is that once you have the permission of your husbands, fathers, brothers, uncles, the approval of your neighbours, in-laws, their relatives and the consent of your spiritual guardians, their God and their scriptures, you can be quite the rebels.
It takes volumes of bravery and valour to bow down to the status quo, and toe the lines that have been forced upon you. It takes unbelievable amounts of gallantry to act out a script that someone else has written for you.
Who on earth are those damn Europeans to try to steal your voice? Who are those unabashed infidels to protest on your behalf? Do they not realise that you are not allowed to express, let alone clamour in favour of, anything that contradicts the ostensibly divine scriptures? Who are those shameless activists to try and liberate you? Do they not realise that you can’t be liberated without the permission of your mehrams? [Male relatives-NoCrossNoCrescent]

Pure prejudice and bigotry.
The same extremist, supremacist excuse (white mans burden) the West have used to colonise the world.
No it is factual, it is "socially" more advance, as women and homosexuals have little rights as they do in the west. That is a fact. Which now it seems a fact is wrong to you. What it should do is wake you up to a reality.
There is no excuse for Western colonies, they were all wrong and shows how deflective your argument is, because back then the west was socially also backward. It has though since advanced, with now many rights, not equal mind, but far better equality for both groups.
It is neither bigoted or prejudice to say, just people are afraid to say it.
I notice you bring racial view points into this by saying white, well sorry to burst your bubble, but the west is made of ethnic people from all over the world, who now live happy there is better equality. It does not mean I view all people from an Eastern culture as backwards far from it, but I view the fact it is still prevalent with discrimination to women in the East and yet people want to ignore this problem, by then shouting and playing the copout card of screaming bigot.
It shows you do not want to recognise the problem faced by women.

So she should be, she wishes to further women in her cause as they face much discrimination, that deserves every penny of the tax payers money, a world without discrimination to women?
There is no argument against that, again equality.

It's interesting how many people you think the British taxpayer should be paying for.....
She and her family should be returned to their home nation and let them pay for them!

Everyone!!
Is about time the nation paid back for what they were only themselves advantaged over plundering nations to have money to further advance society.
The earth is the home nation of every human, you though wish to segregate based off wealth and advantages you had which others did not. You never made this situation, but think you can profit off it, that is the response of greed.

Yep, why not, all should pay for everyone, as why should it be selective on race or wealth? Many already do not pay into this which your whole reason to be okay with this is where they are born, showing how absurd that is.

disagree to no. 1 - shes doing this for herself and for others like her. if anything I wouldn't blame her one little bit for using the spotlight to help further her cause. takes real courage to continue how she has after what happened.
as to No. 2? I will slightly agree but some categories still have a lot of respect and cachets and can help....leave, medicine, science.
I will confess to never having completely read a book nominated for a NPP all the way through......I just cant.....too much

I don't object to what she's doing. I object to how others are using her. To that extent, she is being politically groomed, perhaps as a peace envoy or a future leader of some sort. One the West can do business with. I joke with my Pakistani friends that she will be the new Aung Sang 'Pa Ki'.
As for the Nobel Peace Prize - kind of agree with you. The peace prize is kind of pointless though.
I see where you're going with the politically groomed but a) is that really a bad thing (despite her age at the moment) and b) she can stop if she doesn't like it.
but this is exactly how future leaders, like them or loathe them, start out. William Hague, Benazir Bhutto, Rajiv Ghandi, heck even John Quincy Adams and Dubbya spring to mind.
