Tory plan to leave ECHR contains 'howlers' and is 'factually inaccurate',
Dominic Grieve says proposal outlined by Chris Grayling is riddled with basic errors and will leave 99 per cent of legal decisions on British human rights unchanged
Conservative plans to pull Britain out of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) after the election contains "howlers" and is "factually inaccurate", according to the party's own former Attorney General.
Dominic Grieve said a paper revealed yesterday outlining how the party would leave the ECHR if protections cannot be guaranteed contained basic legal mistakes.
The Tory MP also warned that the proposals failed to explained how the move would apply to Scotland and Northern Ireland and insisted 99 per cent of rulings on British human rights rulings would be "identical" should the UK leave.
However Chris Grayling, the Justice Secretary, challenged the claims, saying the current Attorney General had ruled the plans "fine, viable and legal".
He dismissed the suggestion an error had been made on life-sentence prisoners and revealed the party had been working on plans to scrap Britain's ECHR membership for between 12 and 18 months.

The Tories are just trying to sell something in the hope that they can convince people to vote for them and not UK.
Even if they did get re-elected I doubt their plan will ever see the light of day. And I doubt it will ever happen in Scotland anyway.
So what's next - leave the United Nations as well?

You see this is one problem with the lefties, they see a proposal they dont like and promptly get a case of the hysterics.....
It seems to have escaped you Irn, that we were members of the UN for many years before the abortion known as the "EU" came into being and got us involved in the consequent expensive shit fest that it has become...

Hello Victor. The EU has nothing to do with the ECHR.

I know they were set up at different times and are not per se connected, but if you believe for one second that the the EU doesnt now control the ECHR, then you also beleive that politicians are honest....
The ECHR is the instrument with which the EU intends to destroy britain as a nation.....
NO other nation in the EU has so much crap from them as britain, yet many are far worse....
for instance france commited a grave infringement of Hr a bit back and not a eye lid was batted...
The EU wants to turn britain into the rubbish tip of europe, and hamstring our judicial process to prevent us in turn chucking the rubbish out, or handing out sufficient deterrent sentences,
Of course we all know the left abhores justice..........
oh AND discipline, ESPECIALLY self discipline....

You think that the HRA is a 'leftie' thing then read this Victor. The ECHR was drafted by the Tories and here you can read why true blue Tories say it's a thoroughly Conservative principle and of course the author of the article in the OP is also a devout true blue Tory.

European Court of Human Rights president dismisses British reform plans
David Cameron’s plans to curtail the powers of the European Court of Human Rights have been dismissed by its British president.

There is no doubt that it needs some reform but the only news you will read about the ECHR are the decisions that are apparently against the British government - you will hear nothing about the decisions that come out in favour of the British government.
This is nothing more than political posturing to fend off UKIP and it's unlikely that we will see the day that we leave the ECHR in the near future.

If the HRA had stayed as what it originated as, it would be a majestic piece of legislation, as it is it has suffered "mission creep" and has been totally exploited by the criminal loving left....
and, just because its president is "british" doesnt make him concerned about britain, more likely concerned about his fat paycheck....

Indeed, all the HR protection seems to be in favour of the perpetrators of crime rather than the victims. Having been on the receiving end of some serious anti-social behaviour there was no help for me and no action taken against the verbally abusive and thuggish behaviour of my drug-dealing neighbours. I was forced to move at considerable trouble and expense.
