I did something similar with the whole peppa pig myth......as one of my friends commented - don't know what's more Scary, that people just make stuff up to further their "cause" or that other people believe its true and keep on spreading the shit.

Just because its on the Internet or news or in the paper DOESNT MAKE IT TRUE!!!!! Sadly people are either too lazy or dumb to do their own research.

Not surprised after all this time. Classic BNP/EDL tactics of spreading unsubstantiated rumours. The problem is these stories motivate their supporters and innocents really do get hurt.

There is a Fulton Road, in Wembley. It cuts across Olympic Way and unless he's getting toys from Euro Car Parts, this story is BS.

Also if he's a sergeant, where's his stripes? There probably isn't even a Sgt John Bold.

WHAT IF I suggested that was an American uniform that he's wearing ???

HOW many people out in the wider community would even know the difference (maybe the Big Andy's and nicko's of the world might recognise that uniform - whether it's even British, to start with - but does anyone else here have any ideas ?)..

AND ~ nobody takes note of the white belt and gloves, either ? Over here they are only seen in certain corps on special occasions, turn outs and parades. (Aussie Army dress uniform is usually black belts for sergeants and lower, dark brown for RSMs and officers, khaki with the general summer dress uniform ~ white belts and gloves are seen with some bands, funeral escorts; and civilian 're-enactment' groups..).

No, it's all talking points. What changes peoples' minds is far more complex and elaborate.

As far as alterations, Ben as a journalist you should be a past master at recognizing it, either way. I learned how to couch things so you cannot be 'partially' quoted, while working on political campaigns. Nothing worse than writing a press release, and seeing it twisted to mean the exact opposite by 'out-of-context' quoting in the newspaper. You write:

"Congressman Hall connects with babies..."

...and it becomes,
