British Government Finally Bans Creationism From Free Schools And Academies In Secular Triumph
In what's being heralded as a secular triumph, the UK government has banned the teaching of creationism as science in all existing and future academies and free schools.
The government released a new set of funding agreements in a little noticed document last week, including clauses which specifically prohibit pseudoscience.
The funding agreement defines creationism as "any doctrine or theory which holds that natural biological processes cannot account for the history, diversity, and complexity of life on earth and therefore rejects the scientific theory of evolution," and goes on to note that this idea is rejected not only by the scientific community but most mainstream churches as well.
"It does not accord with the scientific consensus or the very large body of established scientific evidence; nor does it accurately and consistently employ the scientific method, and as such it should not be presented to pupils at the Academy as a scientific theory," the agreement states.
It then adds: "The requirement on every academy and free school to provide a broad and balanced curriculum in any case prevents the teaching of creationism as evidence based theory in any academy or free school."

Re: British Government Finally Bans Creationism From Free Schools And Academies In Secular Triumph
That's fantastic, I'm wondering how controversial it might be though, and of course, there will be those who say this is school forcing one idea as though it's gospel.
I don't see anything wrong with that, though. Plenty of people believe in ghosts, but as there's no scientific basis for it, ghosts are not taught in schools as reality. Plenty of people still don't believe in all sorts of scientific phenomena that are valid, and we don't teach kids that the Earth is flat, or that there's a controversy about its shape, simply because of the non-scientific beliefs some people have.
For that matter, most religious people don't believe that evolution disproves the existence of God in the first place ...
