Re: Explain this.
I think it's because Labour were saying they'd win four hundred seats, and the fact that they needed four hundred seats to be sure of an outright victory in a GE.

Re: Explain this.
400 local council seats.
Would have been indicative of enough support to win majority in gen Elec.
Remind us who has most seats and most councils in UK....?

Re: Explain this.
Labour:
With two results still to come, UKIP had gained 167 seats - giving them 184 seats in all but with no councils under their control; and Labour had won 3,999 seats, giving it control of 81 councils - an increase of five.
The Conservatives have 2,679 seats overall, controlling 41 councils - down 13; the Liberal Democrats picked up 882 seats , seeing the number of councils under their control falling from eight to six.

Since then Labour has won control of Milton Keynes as well

Re: Explain this.
400, 326 is immaterial. Labour won. Simple. Perhaps not as convincingly as they would have hoped, but is is bizarre to the point of being ludicrous for the Fail to determine the result was anything other than a Labour victory.
I would like to know their reasons for saying as they did.

Re: Explain this.
Before the elections:
There are 433 principal authorities in the UK: 27 county councils, 55 unitary authorities, 32 London boroughs, 36 Metropolitan boroughs, 201 districts, 32 Scottish unitary authorities, 22 Welsh unitary authorities, and 26 Northern Ireland districts (the City of London and the Isles of Scilly are non-party based). This list does not include parish and town councils, the lowest tier of local government with limited powers.
The three main parties in Great Britain, the Conservatives, Labour, and the Liberal Democrats, have the most councillors, with 42%, 33%, and 12% of the total respectively. The Scottish National Party has the most in Scotland of any party, and Plaid Cymru is second to Labour in number of councillors in Wales. Northern Ireland is controlled by parties local to the province. Several minor nationwide parties hold a number of seats across the UK, most prominently the United Kingdom Independence Party, Green Party, and Liberal Party. There are hundreds of independent or Residents' association councillors, and many local political parties hold seats and sometimes form part of council administrations.

As Conservatives lost 13 and Labour have gained six, plus many councils now don't have an overall majority party, I should image that they are either neck and neck or Labour has more.

I would like to know their reasons for saying as they did.
Absolutely. When the Liberals had their 'break through' they won control of Councils.

Re: Explain this.
Conservative have most councillors in UK.
Andy, the amount of support in local elections was measured that if they won 400 council seats, that would reflect to enough support to possibly get a overall majority in gen election.
They didn't have that much support, so if support stays that level, they won't get overall majority in gen elections.
That was the point Tess was trying to explain.
It's quite simple really, I'm surprised you are struggling to understand.

Prove it, give the figures

Doesn't work like that, you prove yourself right (it would make a change after all)

No, I can't be arsed to check on a statement YOU made, so until you can prove it, we'll take it that after the changes, you're wrong. Unless you can be arsed to offer proof of your statement.

Re: Explain this.
Sassy, I am not wrong, I wouldn't say it if I didn't know.
IT was on BBC, Nick Robinson was giving the figures.
I've had a quick look but the internet is flooded with Thursdays results.
Conservative have about 5,500 councillors, labour about 4,500 and lib dems about 2,00 I think.
Not sure on exact figures but Tory definately have more overall in UK.

Re: Explain this.
Then it will be on the BBC website. I suggest you have a look. And it doesn't matter how many councillors they have, it's the number of councils they are in control of that is the most important thing. So I suggest you start searching to find out.

Re: Explain this.
It reminds me of how Republicans consoled themselves after losing to Obama in 2012 by telling themselves that they still represent "real" America.
Re: Explain this.
There's over 10,000 council seats in UK.
A few hundred have shuffled around.
Not a big deal.
UKIP did well, labour didn't do as well as expected, Tory lost a few and lib dems got a hammering.
Sunday is the big one.
