EU leaders are allowing Europe to 'sleepwalk into new conflict just like First World War'
EUROPEAN politicians are allowing the continent to 'sleepwalk' into a new conflict with parallels to the First World War, a former German chancellor has warned.Helmut Schmidt, 95, claimed the crisis in Ukraine is "increasingly comparable" to the period leading up to the 1914-1918 Great War. And he blamed the European Commission and NATO for seriously misreading the worst East-West tension since the end of the Cold War.
"I think very little of talking up the threat of World War III, and especially of demands for more money to arm NATO," he told German newspaper Bild. "But the danger that the situation gets ever more tense, as it did in August 1914, is growing day by day."
"Europe, the Americans and also the Russians are acting the way author Christopher Clark describes the start of World War One in his very readable book, like 'sleepwalkers'." 'The Sleepwalkers' by this Australian historian re-evaluates the eve of the First World War, focusing on how clueless the leaders of Europe's great powers were about the carnage of the first industrialised war that would follow.
Warning that European Union commissioners "understand very little", he stated: "The latest example is the attempt of the European Commission to annex Ukraine, and also to try to draw in Georgia. Just a reminder: Georgia lies outside of Europe. This is megalomania, we have no business being there."
In Brussels, officials had blundered by "confronting Ukraine with the apparent choice of having to choose between West and East", so infuriating Russia. He called on MEPs to grab back power from the commissioners.

Seems no-one on here wants to talk about this Tess, I happen to think it is the most important thing facing us at the moment and I do think it is going to spread. What can actually be done I don't know, but I'm not paid to be in charge of the Foreign Office. Much as I have quite a lot of time of William Hague in his Foreign Office role, I do think a lot more should be taking place, and I sincerely hope that behind the scenes it is.

You're an idiot sassy
What you think is irrelevant, you were rooting for Ukraine and hating Russia last week
Now it's gone to rat shit you're breaking your neck trying to distance yourself
FYI it's Hague and Obama who are supporting and fostering the violence in Ukraine

You are off your rocker. Putin is trying to bring back the USSR, he's a megalomanic. And you are such a liar, show one post where I have tried to distance myself.

Comical, tad like saying Hitler was a nice bloke and did not cause the holocaust with such poor defense of Putin.

Your inane defense of Putin as if he is some nice chap who has not done anything wrong, no doubt if this had been 1938, you would be singing the praises of Hitler, standing up to the west, that he has balls, that he has every right to take back parts of former Imperial Germany and that you love how he is not afraid to take action and the fact the west are all bottle by having the Munich agreement!
Sound familiar to what you say about Putin?
I think the thread got it wrong, the point should have been made about Putin and Hitler, how both were seen the same within their time by some

No I have you banged to rights on many threads claiming Russia has every right to have Ukraine back within Russia, as a former territory, to claim the west is weak, to claim Putin has balls, to claim all I have stated, you now try every so pathetically to worm your way out of.
The comparison is a complete match in regards to your idol worship
I love it when you have no answer and yet again History makes you look very silly

I never once mentioned Ukraine you tit
I was always talking about Crimea and the referendums and how he had outplayed the west
Which he did
The west despite giving it big lock and sabre rattling couldn't stop him

Still not grasping my point about Putin, not Ukraine, but Putin, how you defend him, talk about not reading what a poster is saying, no doubt you will use your next get out of jail card from looking inane and claim you cannot understand lol.
My you really are biting tonight.
So you really are quite sad in your idol worship of Putin

Re: EU leaders are allowing Europe to 'sleepwalk into new conflict just like First World War'
The point you miss smelly more than anything is without hindsight knowing what Hitler would have done, if this was 1938, you would be backing Hitler and defending him based upon the same reasoning you are doing so for Putin, not knowing what he would end up doing later.
It shows both Putin and Hitler share the same aggressive tactics and underhanded ploys they use and how also people like yourself are gullible to them
Do you get the point yet?
