Firms blast Labour vow to force an ethnic quota in the workplace

Shadow Justice Secretary Sadiq Khan said Labour could legislate to force firms to be more diverse.

Current figures were “truly disgraceful”, with more than half of FTSE 100 companies having no non-white directors and two-thirds no full-time minority executives at board level, he said. “The next Labour government will work to change this,” he added.

Lisa Buckingham, senior diversity adviser at the Institute of Directors, said it believed diversity improved board decision-making but added: “We are equally certain legislation is not the way to achieve this goal.”

"So let's help more firms go bust" he should have said. Maybe they could introduce yet more rules and regulations at the same time, just in case some aren't quite struggling enough...

It would be racist to refuse a job to a white person on the grounds that he/she is white.

Indeed it would, but it would also be racist to deny equality to non-whites.
Job should be given on skills and who is best for the job, but some industries are biased towards who they employ racially.

There is no easy fix
