Field Math Puzzle
Here’s a little maths quiz for you all. Get your brains into gear and try to solve it.
What we have is a farm house in the middle, and from each side of his house the farmer can see 3 fields with 5 workers in each field, ie: 15 per side, 40 in total. . Now, he engages 1. extra worker and places in one of the fields and yet he can still only see 15 per side.
See if you can work it out. Sorry, but no prizes other than congrats if you can do it.

Re: Field Math Puzzle
The extra worker is situated right behind an existing worker dead central in one of the middle blocks or the farmer himself is the extra worker?

Lol, no, and one of 'em hasn't dodged behind a hedge for pee, and the farmer is indoors with his milkmaid... :astwinsas:
Think about it, and I'll post the answer tomorrow.

Would have to change the number of men in each field to this:
4 6 5
6 5
5 5 5
With the farmhouse in the middle.

Re: Field Math Puzzle
Just for Gerbs lol
4 workers 6 workers 5 workers
6 workers FARMHOUSE 5 workers
5 workers 5 workers 5 workers.
Equals 41 workerss instead of 40, but still only 15 per side.

Was destined to be a Mathematician when at primary school. Loved all bits. Imagined me sitting crossed legged unser a tent of sorts doing sums, eating tomato sandwiches..... I kid you not....
Logarts etc...........sussed, slide rule................ marked, abacus loved the beads......then senior school.......... start again from whence we think you should be..........different method confused, bored and asleep.... hated detested, non of form / year succeeded........... shame. Missed siting in a tepee
can still do sums in head.
On honeymoon bought hubby a watch. price Caribbean dollars, needed to changed to US and the to £ did it in head in two secs before calc was taken out of drawer. Shop keeper had to admit I was right he had over priced.

Re: Field Math Puzzle
Well well, bless my old Granny's home-made dumplings. Sassy, top marks to you and CONGRATULATIONS!
Here's the drawing and answer:
I never was much good at maths. My forte was ancient history, English, geography, and philosophy. I could never understand fractions, they were beyond me. What puzzles me about this little maths gem is although we've added one and the total is 41, there are still only 15 per side. Weird or what?

Re: Field Math Puzzle
Just love puzzles like that. Thanks Stardesk, if you find anymore, keep them coming lol The way to think of it is you have to have a four to balance the six. If the four is on the corner, then it has to have a six next to it on both sides, so you get the extra person. I enjoyed that, got the brain cells ticking.
