Children Over 5 Wearing Nappies To School
28th April 2014
Stop benefits, stop this!
It might also stop teenage girls and their chavvy mothers from wandering the streets in their pyjamas too.
Children are still wearing nappies in class after the age of five in hundreds of schools across the country, a Sky News investigation has found.
Teachers have reported pupils as old as 15 who have no medical conditions or developmental issues, but who are unable to use the toilet on their own.
In what is believed to be the first survey of its kind, Sky News commissioned the National Foundation for Educational Research to ask head teachers and staff in England about their experiences of children coming to schools wearing nappies.
Almost one in 10 heads and senior staff who responded said in the past year a child aged between five and seven had worn a nappy to school.
The figure was 5% for classroom teachers.
Almost one in 20 heads and senior staff said that in the last year a child aged seven to 11 had worn a nappy to school.
And 1% of classroom teachers surveyed had experience of older children in nappies.
The survey was completed by 602 teachers in primary schools and 561 teachers in secondary schools.
The figures suggest that head teachers and senior staff at a substantial number of England's 16,000 primary schools have experience in the past 12 months of at least one pupil above the age of five still wearing nappies.

Haha, what does benefits have to do with this? The only commonality I can see is ... ahem ... being British

Now, if you were an Englishman you'd know what goes on in England.
Let me explain...
Those on benefits fall in to a rut - they sit around with nothing to get dressed for, nothing to do all day - they "mope around".
They just can't be bothered to do things with their children, or themselves. They go to the shops in their pyjamas, they don't shower...
It's just the way it is Benji, and BigAndy9 isn't afraid to tell you that.

Well, Big Benji might not know BigAndy's friends and neighbors like BigAndy knows BigAndy's friends and neighbors, but you can also always count on Big Benji to point out when BigAndy makes claims that aren't supported by the stories that BigAndy posts

Yeah ... Big Benji does not want to make BigAndy have to run out for some tissues here, but if BigAndy told Big Benji the sky was blue, Big Benji would look up to check. ::D::

Sorry Andy this isn't about benefit claimants' kids. (I posted this thread elsewhere, so I've just copied it here, too lazy to re-type):
When I heard this sto on Sky News I thought it'd be the usual suspects, benefits blobs who don't even cook let alone teach their kids stuff. But the teacher they spoke to said it was mostly affluent parents. This rings true - I remember a client who brought her daughter to a meeting, the girl was about seven or eight, and wanted to go to the toilet. I offered to take her so the mother could carry on, and after a while the girl called out from the toilet, saying she'd finished and could I wipe her bum! I couldn't believe it at that age. Needless to say I told her to wipe her own arse.
The thing with some of these wealthy professional parents (some of them anyway) is that they just don't spend any time with their kids. Another time I remember there was a phone call for one of the female partners which I answered as she was out; it was her daughter, absolutely hysterical, in tears, because she'd come home from school, the nanny wasn't in, so she tried to get in and set off the burglar alarm. Poor kid was terrified, I felt so sorry for her. So people think rich kids aren't neglected. It isn't all about money though.

Thank you for the sensible reply Tesstacious - thank god for people like you.
I disagree with you completely.
Maybe it's because the tax payer has had to close down some of those SureStart places we used to fund for those on benefits...

Kind of like how when driving, you're more likely to get hit by the person driving the $50,000 car who can afford 10 more of them than you are to get hit by the guy in the $500 load who can't afford a flat tire
Re: Children Over 5 Wearing Nappies To School

My mum is teacher that is a specialist in 'Learning Difficulties' and has always worked in some of the rougher areas of Sydney. I also Work in Education but I'm not a front line teacher. They are Definitely admirable people that can and do regularly make a real difference to the lives of Children.
