Age of the Moon?
Scientists have pinned down the birth date of the moon to within 100 million years of the birth of the solar system — the best timeline yet for the evolution of our planet's natural satellite.
This new discovery about the origin of the moon may help solve a mystery about why the moon and the Earth appear virtually identical in makeup, investigators added.
Scientists have suggested the moon was formed 4.5 billion years ago by a gigantic collision between a Mars-size object named Theia and Earth, a crash that would have largely melted the Earth. This model suggested that more than 40 percent of the moon was made up of debris from this impacting body. (Current theory suggests that Earth experienced several giant impacts during its formation, with the moon-forming impact being the last.)

Re: Age of the Moon?
I've always found this topic fascinating, and one thing I've never been able to find is what effect astronomers believe the Theia impact must have had on the Earth's orbit. It would stand to reason a collision with a Mars-sized object would have either pushed Earth closer to the Sun or further away, a change which might have made life possible.
I also wonder whether smaller impacts like the massive asteroid strikes may have nudged the Earth's orbit a bit.

Im fascinated by the moon. I love the look of it, the myths and fairy tales surrounding it and it's obvious effect on us humans.

There are a bunch of them, but one in particular is Isaiah 13:10:
"For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine."
She has no light to shine, she reflects the sun's light. ::D::

At some point during the ‘debate’, Bill Nye made mention that the moon reflects the light of the sun, but produces no light of its own. According to an article shamed from even the Waco Tribune, the good townfolk ‘were visibly angered by what some perceived as irreverence.” With the audience on its heels and panel opponents frothing at the mouth, Bill Nye then went into a long lecture where he brought up topics like global warming, Mars exploration and energy consumption. Bill Nye dared to imply that Texans were evil for driving 5 miles per gallon Humvees and not even carpooling.
Suddenly during all this, a wild-eyed minister leaped up from the audience and screamed, saying Bill Nye is a liar because none of his science is in the Bible. Nye calmly riled everyone up, by bringning up Genesis 1:16, which reads, “God made two great lights — the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.” Nye then corrected the Bible. “The lesser light is not a light at all, but only a reflector.”
At this point, the Waco Tribune records that one mother jumped up from her seat and screeched, “We believe in God!”, then ran away crying, dragging three of children away with her. As she ran off, the mother was seen visibly cupping the ears of the child in her arms so her baby would not have to hear any more of Nye’s science.
