University of Arizona Students Riot after Losing Basketball Game
Arizona Students In NCAA Basketball Loss Riot
Pepper spray and pepper balls are fired at students staging a riot in Tucson after the University of Arizona lost an NCAA game.
Fifteen people were arrested after University of Arizona students staged a riot following their team's defeat in the NCAA basketball regional finals.
Tucson police said they used pepper spray, pepper canisters and pepper balls - which disperse into the air when they hit the ground - after several hundred fans took to the streets on Saturday when their team lost in overtime to the University of Wisconsin.
One fan had smoke bombs thrown at him as he stood in front of police. Officers then wrestled him to the ground.
Five people suffered minor injuries as beer bottles and firecrackers were hurled at riot police.
Fourteen of those arrested were later released without charge and one was sent to Pima County jail.
The Wisconsin Badgers beat the Arizona Wildcats 64-63 in the West Region final in Anaheim, California.

Well...don't think it was about losing. There were some really bad calls toward the end of the 2nd half.
Most games are determined today by the officials. The better the competition, the closer the games, the more chance a bad call is going to determine the outcome.
But the news media doesn't want to play up the bad calls by the officials right now. The tournament is still on-going, and the media are making $-billions...so they don't want to ruin a good thing. Right now, you'll find out all about the bad officiating on page nine, below the fold, in the second-to-last paragraph.
Later, on ESPN they will talk all about it, and act as if everyone knew.
Had the call not been made, Johnson would have scored and Arizona would have won by one point.
The charging foul was a complete fabrication--it was what we call a flop (feigned fall-down) by the defensive guy. So it was not simply about losing that the students took to the streets. But, hell in Wales or Brasil they would have had three days of rioting and twenty people stabbed. This was tame.

With 3.2 seconds remaining in overtime in the West regional final, Arizona’s Nick Johnson was called for an offensive foul as he drove to take a shot with the Wildcats trailing 64-63. Arizona would get one more chance to win the game, but that nearly wasn’t the case as a result of this call.

Too much money in sport at that level. Football is the same, cricket used to be a game played by Gentleman who can afford to play sport...... To name but three. Not anymore cheating and bad decisions by unbiased overseers make or break a game, a season, a players career.... Cheats should be removed from whatever game immediately and have to sit out the rest of the season..... Officials should have he same penalties. Who knows how much is actually riding on a huge game with ref to the officials pocket ?
