Egypt military chief Abdul Fattah al-Sisi resigns
Field Marshal Abdul Fattah al-Sisi has announced that he has resigned as Egypt's military chief in order to stand for the presidency.
He made the widely expected announcement on state television.
Mr Sisi led the overthrow of President Mohammed Morsi in July following mass opposition protests.
Correspondents say he is likely to win the presidential poll, given his popularity and the lack of any serious rivals.
In his address, Mr Sisi told Egyptians he was "appearing in front of you for the last time in military uniform", before warning that the country was "threatened by terrorists" and saying he would work to make an Egypt "free of fear".

No surprise there then and of course he will win by a landslide. Back to the days of the Mubarak type rule and life under the Egyptian military.

Yea, and sentencing over 500 men to death in one sitting without the prosecution or defence being allowed to present a case.

It is a case of either they do or the Brotherhood do. Horrendous and to think we are helping with £££££££££££££££££££s and have done so for years and years and years.
The Aljazerra journalists should be freed immediately, not much coverage in our media for them if any..... They were arrested and charged before the law was passed to charge them

The journalists, and it not just Al Jeezera, being imprisoned is a bloody disgrace.
If they wanted to get rid of Morsi they should have demanded a new election. But that was never the point. The Army wanted the power back, they were never going to let anyone else have it for long. And there are many secular protesters, the Army are making sure that is not broadcast, and they are doing it easily, because they run the media.

I feel sorry for all those people who thought there were getting rid of the Army in 2011 and have been conned into thinking it's the only way again. The Army run just about everything, even down to nursery schools.

The Egyptian judiciary have now been given a free hand to dish out retribution all under the watchful eye of the military - their masters.
