Bullet train firm's move to UK will create 1,600 jobs in three years: Japanese rail giant investing hundreds of millions in Britain to take on European rivals
Yesterday’s announcement comes months after Hitachi said its new factory in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, would employ more than 700 when it opens next year.
The site will produce trains to run on the Great Western line and East Coast main line after the group won a £1.2billion contract.

Brilliant news for the NE and our train industry.
Liebour.................. It is your neck of the woods, Japanese companies dislike unions.

As they are also targeting Europe I think you may be right .. .........But then it shows with the right Government - Europe can work for us. Long may it continue. When one decides others tend to be like sheep and follow.......

Labour are absolutely delighted Gerber and so they should be and much credit goes to Labour MP Phil Wilson who fought tooth and nail to win the contract for the North East.. Perhaps you should read this...
Hitachi were awarded preferred bidder status by Labour for the contract to build the rolling stock for Britain’s intercity network but Tory Minister, Philip Hammond, tried to introduce a second unnamed bid causing extreme disquiet with Hitachi who threatened to walk away.
Hitachi statement (Ultimatum)...
"However we are disappointed that there is yet no decision on our bid for the IEP, and therefore on our plans to bring jobs to the UK. We will be continuing our talks with the Department for Transport and will consider our position in the light of these."
These clowns almost blew the whole Hitachi deal. From 2010.

From what I've seen here we have a number of British who rubbish the rest of the world!

Yep, it was a Labour plan that the Tories nearly threw away, good on Phil Wilson on keeping going and making sure we got it.

The Intercity Express Programme was set-up under the previous Labour Government and local campaigners, led by Phil Wilson MP, fought tooth-and-nail to ensure the Coalition did not drop the plans.
Support from Merchant Developments, Durham County Council, One North-East, the Federation of Small Business, North East Chamber of Commerce, the Northern TUC, UNITE, the Northern Echo, MPs and thousands of people helped to bring IEP to the county.
But the Government are trying to take praise for it! Lying bastards.

From your source:
The Intercity Express Programme, a Labour initiative devised to bring a major manufacturing and jobs to the UK, proves what can be done to boost the economy.
So unfortunate that our right-wingers don't arm themselves with the facts

Agreed Gerbs, but if Irn hadn't told you, you would still be thinking it was a feather in the cap of the Government, as most people will, because they aren't about to let on they nearly lost it

I would. You are so right as usual.......
To take time and think about the whole instead of the centre bit....................... Projects, contracts investments on such a scale take years and years of discussion, negotiation, handshake here, handshake there, a few dinns out
I am taking nothing away from Mr Wilson....... But the feel good factor has to be there in the end to finalise the deal...... Bliar would have succeed, I doubt very much if Gordon or Milli was in the driving seat it could have achieved such a resounding result.
Will that do for a right wingers appeasement on the subject ?

You are right Gerbs. The main thing is that the jobs and the investment have come to the UK and by god we need them.
I'd say a nod and a wink on the EU was part of it all as well.

Hi Irn
The reality is I think it had everything to do with the fact we are part of the EU, which has been a big part of the case why business has come here over the years

Hi there Didge.
You are bang on the money with that and having access to the EU market with the trade agreement is indeed a vital component in attracting inward investment. Nissan have all but said that if the UK left the EU they would have to reconsider their options regarding future production in the UK.
