They keep coming and coming and coming.....
The number of out-of-state homebuyers shopping the Dallas real estate market has more than doubled in the last year. Since the start of 2020, the Dallas area has seen one of the largest jumps in potential relocating buyers, according to a new report by real estate firm Redfin.
More than 6,200 of Redfin’s digital Dallas-area property searches in January were by out-of-towners. “The most popular origins of people searching in Dallas are Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area and Seattle,” a Redfin spokesperson said in an email.
Austin was the top market for home searches by out-of-towners, with almost 8,000 searches in January, according to Redfin. The largest share of its page hits came from customers in the San Francisco area.
The Dallas area ranked fourth among the cities with the most out-of-state eyes on local real estate. About 34% of Redfin’s Dallas traffic was from out of the area, with most of the hits coming from Los Angeles locations.

No surprise. People have migrated away from shitholes since day one.

We're good now. We fix our problems. That's why we're busting at the seams with Californians.
Unlike you, most of them learn pretty quickly.

I guess those folks figure dirtier air and water, poor infrastructure, zero social safety net and poorly funded schools are a small price to pay for people who'd rather hang onto a few thousand dollars they'd have had to pay in tax on the West Coast, and that as long as they're all right, everything's all right.
You do realize that the Californians coming to Texas aren't Clintonistas who've seen the evil and depravity of liberalism and have fled to a hotbed of Texas conservatism, don't you? These are Orange County fiscal conservatives who want to live in a moderate place like Dallas or Austin.

Yes, I think many of them are more moderate. They tend to be hard working middle class folks. The poor and the wealthy stay in Cali.
But many have to move because their companies keep moving here.
Or maybe they are just sorta stupid as you are alluding to.

The issue isn't fixing, but creating the problems. To begin with, it's a false equivalency to say disasters by chance are the same as disasters by your deliberate making. California has dangers, including fires as a result of being in a drought area; but that's the luck of the draw. Texas invites dangers by being inadequately prepared, because their ideology says deregulate and lower taxes.
This is the essential difference between Democrats and Republicans. They are not just two different brands, but two different products. Democrats sell service, and go about trying to do things to make life better. They are problem solvers.
Republicans sell dreams, in the form of an ideology and impossible visions where everyone's wealthy and streets are paved with gold. When it doesn't work, as we can't all be millionaires, they say you were lazy and shiftless, and didn't want it after all.
It's useless to compare the two parties on the surface, without taking into account what they try to do. Democrats go to work fixing things, while Republicans pitch their dream and make up excuses after it doesn't work. When was the last time Republicans waved their magic wand to try out their ideology: Watergate? Afghanistan? Iraq? Torture? Rape? Rendition? Guantanamo? Changes in banking laws, leading up to the 2nd Great Depression (October, 2008)? Corporate tax cuts (2017)? Placing children in cages? The pandemic? Now, Texas in 2021.
Now, Democrats are fixing the last mess left by Republicans...the pandemic. Elsewhere, the little scat piles left by Republicans are waiting to cause the next disaster.

FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — Many people are now choosing to pack up and leave California.
Increasingly more people are saying high taxes, the high cost of living, and even politics are making them choose to leave the Golden State.
A report released over the summer showed the state’s population growth hit a record low.
Over the past five years, California has ranked in the top ten states people are moving from.

No, California is coveted, and that means expensive. People exiting the south are going to Colorado, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Illinois, New York and the six states of New England. It is swapping, dickless.

Even subtracting COVID-19 deaths, Illinois still suffered its largest population drop in modern history in the first year of Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s fiscal policies, including 20 new tax and fee hikes, as well as his pandemic response.
Illinois recorded a seventh straight year of population loss, but the drop was historic – 79,487 residents from July 2019 to July 2020, the most since World War II and the second largest of any state in raw numbers or percentage of population.
Data released by the U.S. Census Bureau Dec. 22 shows only New York lost a greater number or share of residents during the year.

New York and California, both hit early by the pandemic, had some of the biggest drops between mid-2019 and mid-2020, with New York losing about 126,000 people and California losing almost 70,000, according to annual Census Bureau estimates that are not related to the official 2020 census counts. The annual estimates are based on births, deaths, construction permits and other records.
Also, Illinois’ population slide continued with a drop of about 79,000. New York and Illinois had the largest percentage drops in population, about two-thirds of one percent for each.
The big gainers were Texas, up about 374,000 people for the year, and Florida, up about 241,000, though the figures do not take into consideration the coronavirus spikes that happened in those states after July. In percentage terms, the Mountain West states of Idaho (2.1% growth for the year) followed by Arizona (1.8%), Nevada and Utah (1.5%) grew fastest.

Maddog, I do wish our politicians had the balls to tax the ultra-wealthy commeasurate to how the middle class is taxed. The father of capitalism himself said it's perfectly reasonable to tax the wealthy more than you tax everyone else, because (duh) they can afford it.
But of course, with wealth comes the power to not only deregulate industries in order to increase your own wealth, but also to influence the government so that you're taxed less.
And let's not forget that in America, you need wealth to run for national office (this is starting to change, slightly, thankfully).
It's almost as if America is a nation that started off by saying it's not right to have people controlled by a wealthy monarch and his/her rich nobles, then fell asleep as other rich and powerful people innovated new ways to take power away from the average citizen.
Maybe we should look into that.

It's not the wealthy coming here.
They don't care about paying a lot more in taxes. That's why so many wealthy people are liberal.
I have no idea what the rest of your post has to do with people leaving the three most liberal states in droves.

"In the fiscal year that ended in July, Los Angeles County had by far the greatest net loss due to migration of any California county — more than 74,000 people, according to state demographers. Some moved to nearby areas with lower costs of living; others ventured farther or left the state altogether.
California’s beachy lifestyle and creative energy in entertainment, the arts and technology still exert a strong pull — but increasingly, only the wealthy can afford these perks. Dowell Myers, an expert on demographic change and a professor at USC’s Sol Price School of Public Policy, said there is not enough affordable housing to keep young families in the state. Native Californians often stay for personal reasons, but for those who came from somewhere else, there's little keeping them from heading to cheaper, less-crowded pastures."

Well, duh. All you are saying is what economists have known for centuries: increased demand creates increased value. To say California is too expensive is to say California is too beautiful or too attractive. That is a good thing.
Actually, California is not losing out to other states, it is filling out. California is the third largest state in land area. When I first saw California, the tri-valley was all farms and ranches. Now it is wall-to-wall homes, and the residents have jobs in San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose. Indeed, roads and transportation have improved such that people who work in Oakland can now live in Sacramento.
But this doesn't alter the broader trend, that blue states like blue-oriented people, and likewise red states with red-oriented people. People who are moving into northeastern and western states are attracted to equality, empathy for others, and problem-solving for a better life. The people who are moving into Texas, Georgia and Florida, are attracted to the values of self-serving, violence (guns), antigovernment and white supremacy. The poles are getting farther apart, and very soon there will be a time when Amexit is the talk-of-the-day.
