5 people shot in 3 separate incidents in London in 24 hours

Five people have been injured in separate shootings across London during one night.

Two men were shot in Brixton just before 19:00 BST on Friday, while another two people were shot during a silent party in Hackney during the early hours of Saturday morning.

A fifth person was injured in Croydon during a separate shooting.

Two men, aged 30 and 31, were arrested in connection with the incident in Hackney and remain in police custody.

The first shooting took place at 18:52 BST on Friday in Akerman Road, Brixton.

"Officers, including firearms officers, attended and found damage to two parked vehicles," the Met said.

"There was no trace of any victims. Police were called a short time later to a south London hospital after two males self-presented with gunshot injuries.

'We await an update on their condition."

The second shooting took place at 01:12 BST in Mandeville Street, Hackney.

Police were called to reports that a 30 and 31-year-old man had been taken to hospital with gunshot wounds.

"Both men are not believed to have sustained life-threatening injuries and they both remain in hospital," police said.

Two men, aged 30 and 31 were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

A few minutes later, police were called to London Road in Croydon, following reports of a gunshot.

A man in his 20s, was found with a gunshot wound, the Met said.

He was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. No arrests have been made.

If we had easier access to gun, there'd be more shootings than this. More innocent people would die.

yes but this is no reason to excoriate legitimate, licenced gun owners over the actions of criminals...Very Very few shootings are carried out by licenced owners. and a total ban would do nothing to impact on the level of shootings by criminals since the guns they use are illegal unregistered and we cant even keep out illegal humans let alone illegal guns.

Got any proof? I think the more important distinction is between possession for sport (shotguns, .30-cal. deer hunting guns, etc.) and handguns for protection/anger purposes.

Among concealed carry permit holders in Florida and Texas, the firearms violation rate is only 2.4 per 100,000 or one-seventh of the rate for police officers. The data are similar in other states.

Of course this is slightly different because we don't have licenses to own weapons, but we do have licenses in certain states to carry them. What it shows is that the folks who will jump through the hoops to get goverenment approval are safer than the typical poster on Newsfix.

as a private citizen in the UK you cannot legally own a hand gun except in certain very closely regulated circumstances and even then, other than some stipulated professions (vets for instance) they MUST be kept at the club you shoot at under the clubs security, you cannot take them outside of the club.
NO automatics are peritted and the only semi autos are some shotguns (and they are section one weapons so need the upper tier licence) and some .22 long rifle types...nothing bigger#

bolt action stuff is permitted on other calibers.

I agree. And that gets closer to my distinction between hunting/sports and defense/anger.

I don't think this should or will affect our gun laws. They are generally working well at keeping gun crimes very very low. There'll always been incidents though sadly.

I think there is an inevitable personal animus element about the self-defense argument. If someone has to defend oneself against another person, certainly it begs for a reason. Not necessary. Having guns causes gun deaths. Eliminate guns and you eliminate a substantial cause of death.

Ted Bundy raped, murdered, mutilated and/or decapitated at least 30 women.

He didn't use a gun. He simply overpowered them.
