Covid-19 cases once again on the rise as Germany begins to lift lockdown measures
Germany has relaxed more coronavirus lockdown measures despite the country's rate of infection rising to potentially dangerous levels.
Pubs, gyms and cafes were allowed to open in the most populous state of North-Rhine Westphalia starting today, while other states are allowing people to socialise with those outside of their household and for large shops to reopen.
The moves come despite the country's 'R' figure - or rate of infection - rising for the second day in a row to 1.13, the Robert Koch Institute said. Anything over 1 means the number of new daily infections will increase.
The increase was revealed as outbreaks of coronavirus were uncovered at three slaughterhouses across the country.

Look, I hate being locked down. I hate what it's doing to the people I love in terms of their quality of life, I hate that it's putting people out of work, out of business. I hate that it's driving people fucking nuts.
I'd do anything to have friends over, go out to eat, visit a pub, take in a sporting event.
But stories like this just go to show that haste to re-open and go back to normal is going to endanger people. We have to decide whether socializing and doing business is worth, essentially, killing hundreds of thousands of people who otherwise wouldn't have died.
More than 86,000 Americans have died from C-19. Imagine that you were friends with all of them. It's one thing to look at a big number; it's quite another to remember that every single one of those deaths leaves a hole in many other people's lives.
Some of us talk about the economic hardships caused by the pandemic response as though they've become intolerable after six or seven weeks. Well, what about the people who lived through WWII? The UK suffered for six straight YEARS and I bet nobody back then wanted to just surrender to Hitler and get on with life.

Straw-man fallacy and plead to emotions fallacy again
Do you ever look at the number of deaths in many other factors and make the same argument above Ben?
Of course the numbers of infections will be going up and down as an ease of lock-downs occur
Its why such measure are monitored and will play a part in how decisions are made
To me its dumb to open bars and gyms so recent after this. That is my personal opinion after this
It was economic hardship and the wall-street crash that led and allowed Hitler to gain power
Before this the Nazi's were going nowhere
It was a fear that the Nazis instilled in people, based off the wall-street crash to gain support and power
Fear is the key word here Ben

The R rate has crept up to over 1 in Germany since they relaxed the lockdown, simply put that means infected people infect more people.
The higher the R the more people get infected, so the second wave starts.
The same will happen here if fewer people stop isolating and relax social distancing.

Strawman argument
What does that have to do with my point in regards to children?

It's not a strawman argument, it's simply the facts. A strawman argument is when you attack not what someone has claimed, but a twisted parody of what they said.
Example: "I think we should be taking more action to combat climate change."
Strawman: "You just want everyone to live like cavemen!"

Strawman: "You just want everyone to live like cavemen!"

Wrong
"A straw man (or strawman) is a form of argument and an informal fallacy based on giving the impression of refuting an opponent's argument, while actually refuting an argument that was not presented by that opponent. One who engages in this fallacy is said to be "attacking a straw man"."

wow
I know the thread is not about children
The debate did change to views around children Eddie, because Ben was trying to look smart and looked actually silly here, based off other debates
Or did you skip[ past every reply in this thread?
Why does that not surprise me in the least

Re: Covid-19 cases once again on the rise as Germany begins to lift lockdown measures
The scientific body advising the German government on coronavirus says it is not concerned that the virus reproduction rate - the R rate - has been above one for three straight days.
Above R1.0 means that, statistically, one infected person is passing the virus to more than one other person.
But Lars Schaade of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) said only if the R value rose above 1.2 or 1.3 for several days would he be worried.

In Germany the R rate is now going in the wrong direction.
It has taken weeks to get it down below 1 and falling....and now it's risen above 1 again, that has to be worrying.

Same will happen here. As usual, Boris has made another critical error by suggesting easing of the lockdown. Beaches and parks are now going to be rammed, and 2 weeks from now the R will climb over 1 and we will get a second wave.
It's as if the cabinet are now of the opinion "I've had it, I'm alright, Jack"

I agree, in my opinion also the same thing will happen here, it's inevitable.
