Coronavirus Isolation
This is a bit of a rant I'm afraid, so I am expecting to be shot down in flames.
This situation is of course very serious perhaps more serious than most of us can grasp right now but is anyone else sick to the back teeth of celebs and programmes telling us its ok to feel stressed - of course it is, stress in one form or another is always with us. Telling parents how to amuse their kids, don't they have any memories of their childhoods (pre computer probably ) or any imagination, taking care of vulnerable people in your locality that's what you do surely and people are doing it without the 'advice'. We are being treated as nice but dim, are we really so far from human compassion in times of crisis that we have to be told or reminded how to behave. Not sure which channels but even the Green Goddess and Mr. Motivator have been dusted off to help us poor fragile ordinary folk get through this. TSK.

Thanks Eddie. My OH and I are nearly in the bracket for over 70's with underlying health problems, under control with medical help and we've survived this long even through all the childhood illnesses of the 50/60/70's and the deprivations of those times so I reckon we'll still be here after this with the usual precautions of course. I don't feel old and vulnerable, we are still working and it was a bit of a surprise - very pleasant one, I may say, when so many neighbours and relatives offered help with shopping etc. Love them all.

Re: Coronavirus Isolation
Messages like that are mostly geared toward the stupid, the same people who are reminded every summer not to leave their children and pets in hot cars and yet still manage to do it, year in and year out.
But yeah, the public by and large ends up getting treated like a bunch of simpletons.

Yes, I’ve noticed that neighbours seem to be coming together and helping out. Maybe the one good thing to come out of this is communities really becoming closer.
Stay safe Vintage.

You and your family stay safe as well. Don't go anywhere you don't absolutely have to and take all the precautions you can think of if you do go anywhere. Have you watched the film Contagion, it shows many good practices for this situation, a very helpful film in the circumstances. Keep away from other people.

We are staying isolated, yes, apart from trips to Tesco. I have seen the trailer for “Contagion”, it does look good. We have plenty of time to watch a lot of films these days.
Been going for lots of walks in the woods which are about a two minute walk away from our house. It’s been so sunny and my daughter loves walking and seeing the horses.

Re: Coronavirus Isolation
Some have been funny but I believe it’s getting to be OTT but unfortunately in today’s reality tv world it may be the only message that gets through to them. Sadly it doesn’t seem to be getting through to people over here.
And please stay safe everyone x

I felt a little tingle in my throat. The wind and pollen is kicking up here. So I rode my bike about 25 miles to make sure I was OK.

I think people are simple trying to do what they think is best Vintage and sadly fail to understand whether they do or not. As we have entered a situation that many of us have never faced before. A time of great peril. Only those who have lived through such peril like WW2 understand this. I guess maybe its a form of the British stiff upper lip being played out in various forms. Many celebs have their heart in the right place and no doubt are as scared as many people are with this. I agree it can be annoying, but then generally celebs can loose touch with reality, when stardom takes hold for them. Hence why its okay to vent as you are doing. The thing is, as dumb as what some celebs are doing. It is actually helping some people strangely enough. I think people in the main, want to try to help, when sometimes they would be better placed not saying anything at all.
The reality is, nobody can please everyone, but many do mean well here
Thew sad reality is some people fail to listen and why certain views to safeguard are drummed home. Where in reality this message is important until it is drummed home in everyone how dangerous this situation we now face is. I have to self isolate for 12 weeks. Due to the severity of my asthma. Being a proud dick like I am, this is very frustrating, but its to protect me. I can work from home which is lucky, but to rely on others, is a something I struggle with. As I have always been so independent.
I am thankful so many people have volunteered to help here. It shows the true character and courage of people, during this hard time
Take care Vintage and have a wonderful evening

Re: Coronavirus Isolation
Quite true but still patronising and annoying. With all the how to keep sane/amuse yourself/your children etc the real important message may be being lost on some, although with some people unless you print it on their forehead they still don't get it.
Anyway take care of yourself.

Todays sobering Fun 'Fact' :
Tobacco is still the leading cause of 'preventable' deaths in the US...
A couple of days ago, el Presidente Donnie de Dumpster announced that his expert medical advisors have predicted that between 150,000 and 250,000 Americans could die from CoVid-19 this year..
Over the same period, over 600,000 will die from Heart disease, and nearly 600,000 from Cancer -- with both having Tobacco, along with high fat, high sugar diets, and excessive alchol consumption, as common leading causative factors.
So, it still looks like bad lifestyle choices will still be the leading causes of deaths, easily double those from this pandemic..

Retail stores report that liquor sales are up 40% nationwide. I guess we know how people are handling the daily Trump news conferences.

Re: Coronavirus Isolation
And the US stockmarket has had a couple of weeks of record level bull trading, running contrary to both the international "bear" markets, and a slowing domestic economy...
Until it finally 'slumped' over the last two days..
Word is that a round of 'insider trading' in certain health-related stocks (e.g. ventilators, masks, anti-viral med's..) by those same Repug' pollies who have been talking down the pandemic while talking up possible faux "cures", could have been powering the market along.

The stock market is a bunch of rich capitalists, trying to out-guess one another.
Watch the unemployment filings: 3.5-million last week, 6.6-million this week in the US alone. Those are the real people.
