Trump's commitment...yesterday
DJT wrote:"The United States will be powerfully supporting those industries, like Airlines and others, that are particularly affected by the Chinese Virus. We will be stronger than ever before!" he wrote.
Even while he chops programs for food stamps and hot lunches for children. Whatever happened to 'a Vietnamese hen in every pot'.

Isn’t he now offering $1,000 dollars (or more) to every adult? Seems he’s trying.
Or isn’t that in keeping with the Trump-hatred?

Trump is avid socialist, yes. He throws money at any problem. Rather simplistic and uncreative.
First, it was midwestern farmers, now it's everyone staying indoors.

When healthcare and emergency services in the USA these days are effectively under the control of big corporations..

That's actually the proposal of Senator Mitt Romney, who ran for president in 2012, Republicans are not clever. Democrats are strategic, and plan aid around programs like school lunches and unemployment insurance. But Republicans go all-crazy , and throw out money like it was paper towels.

Re: Trump's commitment...yesterday
The Federal Reserve in the USA looks to be preparing for 'pre-emptive' strikes to help the economy over there this week...
Ramping up to release up to $1.3 trillion dollars in stimulus spending -- across handing out cash payments, making zero-interest loans to businesses, increasing gov't spending (especially on healthcare..), providing tax relief, etc.
It may seem a good idea to "give a thousand dollars to everyone" at first glance, but once the admin' comes to their senses, and start listening to the real world experts, that money might be better spent on extending welfare payments for poorer people, giving tax rebates to middle and higher income earners, and encouraging businesses to keep workers on for longer ?

Re: Trump's commitment...yesterday
Where is the Veterans Administration (VA)? They are the one agency that stockpiles supplies. They have plenty of masks, protective gear, ventilators, etc.
In fact, where is the military overall? The Corps of Engineers could be building additions to hospitals and clinics.
Seems like the Trump administration wants to sit on their hands...don't want the problem to go away.
How are Putin and Russia faring in all of this, incidentally?

As of yesterday, there were nearly 560 cases in Oz, 5 deaths in NSW, 6 nationally (health is a state issue here (similar to the US of A..), so is reported on a state-by-state basis -- while the fed's look after overall funding, drug supplies, border protection, overall pandemic/endemic controls, etc..).
Restrictions on overseas travel, and incoming tourism, came in this week..
No blanket shutdowns of schools and uni's here -- whether any individual institution or campus closes at the moment is up to the disgression of each administration.

I wish Andrew M. Cuomo was our President instead of Trump. He has his shit together and knows what he's talking about. He is a real leader and not an incompetent narcissistic asshole like Trump.

Which state has the most infections?
I'll reserve judgement for actual results, not speeches.
Using your criteria, the PM of Italy could be considered a good leader based on his speeches.

Thank you, Lurker. I've had that thought many, many times as I watch Cuomo's press conferences. He is able to think in crisis mode, a lot better than the ego-burdened Trump is able to do.
All Trump can do is put out lies and innuendos that something is out there, when in fact it won't be for maybe another 1 & 1/2 years.

I watched Trump's press conference a few minutes ago. it was the most painful thing to watch. Trump reads at a second grade level. The man is illiterate. Pence was a breath of fresh air when he took over. Trump has to be the most stupid President America has ever had.

I watched it, but about 2/3's through I had to turn it to another channel. It's the same as with Fox News...I end up asking myself, why are you watching this crap, when it's all lies?
Trump thinks himself sooo cute when he's trying to be civil. He thinks he is succeeding in being liked. He keeps promising, promising, promising things that he knows won't be here for another 2 years. He seems to believe that promises, like denials, are substitute placeholders for reality. Seems someone told him poker chips are real money.

Nicko has less than zero to offer, and the conservatives have been in power long enough that nicko, Tommy and co. can no longer blame Labour for all their troubles.. So all that the snowflake 'keyboard warrior' nicko has left now, is to "shoot the messenger" whenever he doesn't like the message...

It was Trump's fault for dragging his feet and not declaring
a national emergency sooner. Cuomo's hands were tied because of Trump's incompetence.

Ah well, what else can he do? As Lurker said on another thread, the usual rightys are at a loss to defend the incompetence of their Republican and Tory leaders.
With nothing else to do, they are like yipper-dogs, with their falsetto yapping down there at your feet. Shoo them away; they are of no consequence.

Quite harsh, Wolfie. Please tone it down. And remember that when you resort to insulting other members, it sounds like you're all out of arguments to make.

I seem to remember seeing "polite and civil " somewhere, do you remember it Ben ? Perhaps if you came down hard on certain posters ,those who ignore the rules and get away it time after time the membership might increase. why are you so frightened to take action against the biggest offender on here, Namely Wolfie, you know him, the one with the biggest inferiority complex in Oz !

Nicko, I prefer to use a light touch when moderating and to allow members to solve most of their problems themselves. After all, what offends one person is, to another person, their sacred freedom of speech.
If you're going to cry out against PC, I don't think you should then run to me if someone hurts your feelings -- that's hypocrisy.
That said, I don't want to see Wolfie calling people "senile" or many other slurs he uses. But on the other hand, when I banned the C-word, I got an equal amount of flack for it. So I realize I'm never going to make a decision that everyone here agrees with.
I can only go with what I feel is the best response at the moment. Maybe I'll be wrong, but that's life for a forum owner. I'll just say that people (not just you) should learn that Wolfie isn't fazed by people throwing insults his way, so maybe they should try ignoring him or handling him some other way.

I find the best way to deal with abuse is to ignore it and stick to my point. After all, if someone gets abusive in a simple debate on a forum then it must mean they’re angry inside and really, doesn’t that tell you something?

No they weren't. A governor never needs a presidents permission to declare a state of emergency.
What do you think of Italy's response?

The problem with blocking is, it leaves the other party with the last word.
Wolf is a well-educated and smart guy, and when he doesn't have yipper dogs in his face, he posts some of the best posts on here.
Blocking leaves the impression that the other guy ran you off. It's certainly not hurting the blockee...he's busy making his points.

Nicko quotes "polite and civil"...
Yet nicko is that very same mongrel who has been attacking me, Lurker, Quill, Andy, and occasionally eilzel, all this year (the poor little flower no longer has veya to attack daily, so has to vent his anger elsewhere..).
And let noone forget that nicko was the only person who saw fit to troll my bushfires thread..
As for Fatdogs crap talking -- "Mr Negativity" himself, often pipes up to trying to lay the blame onto me whenever I've been defending myself against attacks from him, nicko or HT in the past..
