Grooming gang review kept secret as Home Office claims releasing findings ‘not in public interest’
The government is refusing to release official research on the characteristics of grooming gangs, claiming it is not in the “public interest”.
Survivors accused ministers of making “empty promises”, while a man who prosecuted abusers in Rochdale called for the Home Office to “show some courage and publish” its findings.
It comes after The Independent revealed that almost 19,000 suspected child sexual exploitation victims were identified by local authorities in just one year, sparking renewed calls for prevention efforts.
Sajid Javid promised the review as home secretary in July 2018, pledging that there would be “no no-go areas of inquiry”.
“I will not let cultural or political sensitivities get in the way of understanding the problem and doing something about it,” he said at the time.

It may well be that the research reveals that such gangs are comprised of old white males, who have made their fortunes and are looking for trophy triumphs. Harvey Weinstein may be the prototype. We've locked up Bill Cosby...who is next?
The prototype seems to fit a lot of Tories and Republicans. Be careful what you wish for.

Hardly when we already have documented evidence of countless grooming trials. That the vast majority are Pakistani gangs

Maajid Nawaz argued with a caller and insisted that it's important to recognise that grooming gangs are disproportionately Muslim.
Maajid spoke to a caller, Daniel, about the revelation that the Rotherham police chief ignored the sex abuse of children because of a fear of racism.
The caller thought Maajid Nawaz was comparing "apples and pears" when he "kept mentioning Muslims".
Maajid Nawaz provided statistics about grooming and sexual exploitation, citing Rochdale, Rotherham, Oxford, Bristol, Aylesbury, Newcastle and Peterborough as examples.
Maajid said: "The pattern in all of these, overwhelmingly, is South Asian Muslim men, primarily Pakistani, sometimes Somali Muslims, sometimes North African Muslims.
"It doesn't help us Daniel to pretend this wasn't a phenomenon that was replicated across the country."

One of them--Harvey Weinstein--is undergoing such a trial right now in New York City. He will have to face a criminal trial in Los Angeles when he is finished in New York.
Then there is Jeffery Epstein, who died for his sins. And, we all know about impeached-President Trump, and his parade of NDA's.
And lo, did you see on Thursday night that Mr. Bloomberg has a collection of NDA's atop his dresser, next to his jewelry box? Gangs of old, rich, white guys, roaming out streets...watch out!!

Weinstein has nothing to do with being part of a child grooming gang... so irrelevant to this thread...
It's that simple!

Are you sure? I would like to see something that proves that conclusively, toms.
Mixed in there among our old, white Republicans, is Jeffery Epstein...he, of the specialty of child sex. Epstein was close friends with impeached President Trump, Prince Andrew and countless others. I believe that Trump rewarded the Florida prosecutor who went soft on Epstein, giving him a cushy Cabinet position for covering it all up.
I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that Weinstein was a customer.

I wasn't the lawyer, toms. I believe it was Alexander Acosta. According to the Miami Herald:
Miami Herald wrote:Investigators are currently looking into the role that federal prosecutors played in that case, which ended with Villafaña’s boss Alexander Acosta cutting a sweetheart deal to Epstein that let him serve just 13 months in a minimum-security prison for soliciting prostitution. Villafaña reportedly disagreed with Acosta’s deal and wanted to pursue Epstein for the full scope of his crimes.
Trump rewarded Acosta with the post of Secretary of Labor, which he had to resign last year, when the news broke.
These stories tend to come out in drip, drip, drips...but we should know eventually, and soon. The election is in November, and we'll have a new crew in there.

Maajid appears to be a specialist in south asian grooming. I'll bet he has not studied the old, white Republican and Conservative men who groom young, beautiful women...or men, for that matter.
Just because Maajid is a specialist does not mean the problem does not exist elsewhere. It's a universal issue. Older, predatory men have always preyed on young women...even after they marry them.

Yes, we are! If the topic of grooming and rape is the subject, it's a legitimate subject for criticism. If we deliberately try to exclude other rapists and groomers, then maybe our point is not so righteous. And, if we are strictly limiting ourselves to only Muslims, then I'm sure it's bigotry.
I assume everyone here is not racist. I wouldn't participate in a thread that was uniquely focused on a single race or religion.

But the thread is about ASIAN grooming gangs.
It would be like you posting a topic about how white cops kill black boys and me going on about Asian grooming gangs.
Come on Quill, stop being so defensive.

That's pretty close to racism. What have you got against Asians? Open the subject up to all grooming and you are on safer grounds.
Of course, I'm against all censorship...but that's probably because I'm a devout First Amendment advocate. Anytime you start censoring a subject, you have to look at the direction in which it is going in order to determine the message. If you censor 'all' crimes down to only crimes committed by blacks...don't you see the direction the conversation is going?
To say that you are only willing to criticize Asian crime, is to beg the question: what is this about?? Are we talking about Asians? Or, are we talking about crime? If we are talking only about Asians, and deliberately censoring similar characteristics regarding other races, then you are in dangerous ground. Your meaning is a slippery slope.

No society will ever be at peace if one ethnic group is allowed to get away with crimes, and it doesn't matter which ethnic group you're talking about.
Re: Grooming gang review kept secret as Home Office claims releasing findings ‘not in public interest’
Quill, I’m sticking to thread topic. That’s all. You can see racism if you want. It’s a simple fact that the thread is about one type of grooming.
If you can’t see that then I can’t help you.

No you are not, you are trying to impose limits on a free discussion. That's called censorship.
As an advocate of free and open speech, I oppose censorship wherever it appears. Censorship is the enemy of democracy. Look how Trump complains about leaks, and imposes executive privilege to constrain free and open discussion. He is the enemy of democracy.
Censorship is usually the first precursor to a dictator's takeover. That's why our founders wisely created our First Amendment to the US Constitution.

Exactly Ben and this was the problem from the start
There has been enquiries where the Police completely failed to victims. All due to failing to act out of a fear of racism.
Its utterly appalling how these victims were let down by not only the Police, but the social services

we've had gangs of pakistani men deliberately targeting young vulnerable white girls (non Muslims)
drugging them, abusing them, beating them up, threatening their families.
they have argued in court that the koran allows them to and that these girls are classy ladies
the police refused to help these girls. more than that, they arrested parents who tried to get their girls back
the social services refused to help these girls and just ''giving'' them back to these rapist paedophiles to do what they want.
why?
it's already been documented that they were scared of stirring up racial tensions so sacrificed these girls in order to 'keep the peace'.
we've never encountered a situation like this before.
most paedos are caught, arrested, charged and imprisoned. this was a totally different thing altogether and it's still happening.
but you keep muttering about old white men.
you can't even acknowledge this thread
you've just made yourself look like such a weak, pathetic fool with your own agenda going on
