Is the US Senate covering up for Trump crimes?
After the US House of Representatives delivered up articles of Impeachment, and sent time on to the US Senate for trial, it now appears that the Senate--Republican by a margin of three votes--wants to cover up the matter. Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell has designed a format in which there will be no witnesses, no documents, and in fact, no evidence whatsoever. His idea is that there will be only an up-and-down vote on whether the president is guilty. In other words, he wants no presentation of facts.
This is consistent with the old adage, if the facts are against you, you argue the law. Only here, the law is against the Republicans as well: whoever heard of a trial with no evidence? That's what trials are for: to hear evidence. Indeed, the very definition of a trial is “a formal examination of evidence before a judge, and typically before a jury, in order to decide guilt in a case of criminal or civil proceedings.” Oxford Dictionaries; see, also: https://search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?hspart=pty&hsimp=yhs-pty_maps¶m2=e14f4fa0-748f-420c-97d9-ac7b43f587c0¶m3=maps_~US~appfocus84~¶m4=%7bsource%7d-bb8~Chrome~trial+definition~850BA6DC4A10BDB6AF8B2C103B681625¶m1=20171009&p=trial+definition&type=admk
The reason, of course, why the Republicans want no facts, is that the impeached President is clearly guilty of doing the things for which he is accused and impeached. In his legal ignorance, he himself released a transcript of the telephone call that was, and proved his guilt. He is accused of embezzlement and impoundment of congressionally mandated/authorized funds, extortion using those withheld funds, and bribery of the President of Ukraine in an attempt to get him to "do him a favor". Trump is heard in the transcript of the telephone call, by admission and in his own words, doing all of those things.
So, once again, the party that is the conservative party, wants to hide the truth from the public and frustrate the workings of democracy. As much as possible, the Republicans want to resort to autocratic ways. The design of the trial, as arranged by Mr. McConnell, is not only to deny any evidence, but hold arguments in the dead of night (1 am) when no one is listening.
In matters discussed elsewhere, once again we see a conservative party trying to use the rules to frustrate the will of the people. Republicans have done this increasingly, arranging rules to distance the people from imposing their will. We saw this, originally, in Jim Crow laws and literacy tests in the south, and in gerrymandering districts, as well as general voter suppression; now, we see it in (1) employing a foreign nation to influence the vote here in America; and (2) now, in the Senate, to keep essential information as to the criminal behavior of their government, away from the public.
Just as Richard Nixon tried to cover up his crimes in the Watergate break-in, so we see Republicans trying to cover-up a president's crimes by suppressing/hiding the evidence. Only this time the Senate is a participant in the cover-up.

The Republican Party is a gaggle of criminals and unethical scumbags. They are nothing more than a crime syndicate.

Re: Is the US Senate covering up for Trump crimes?
Republicans are counting on American preoccupation and inattention. Unfortunately, Republicans are right on a limited scale. They are betting that most Americans are not as attentive as you and me, Lurker. They think they can sail their deceptive nonsense right over most Americans' heads. The question is: how right are they?
The proper response is to get America's attention. Look at what the Republican Senate is doing: trying to keep things quiet so America doesn't notice all the corruption. Hence: no witnesses, and no evidence whatsoever. Just a repetition of boring old process arguments, and attack, attack, attack...boring...nothing to see here.
This is the most corrupt administration ever put on stage in the US. The Republican Senate, putting party before country, is trying to wrap a cloak around it all so we can't see. Their mantra is: Much ado about nothing! Just Democrats, crying wolf! Everybody go back to sleep!
In fact, the American Republican Party is joining hands with the Russian Mafia, and the Saudi Monarchy, to reap trillions and turn democracy into plutocracy. They are trying to rig elections, do secret side-deals and undercut the institutions like law, equality and fairness, built by time-tested work over the centuries.
It all depends on how sleepy and stupid American's want to be.
