LSU humiliates Texas Aggies
Louisiana State University beat the Texas A&M badly...Score: 50 - 7. With a showing like that, maybe the Aggies should voluntarily withdraw from the league.

LSU went on to win the national title, having badly beaten Clemson University, last year's title champion.
In addition to the national title, LSU Quarterback, Joe Burrow, won the Heisman trophy.
That whole team could have gone directly into the National Football League professional ranks and contended.

I've never heard of the Heisman trophy. How long has it been around for, Q? I know that trophies are usually named after famous benefactors or very talented sports heroes.

Well done to the LSU! I know nothing about your football league but your postings might get me interested.
In the UK there was once a topflight football (soccer) match that was so embarrassingly one sided that afterwards league bosses discussed whether such matches should be abandoned after the first 5 or 6 goals all from one side.
I mean why bother watch any longer when the score is already 5 or 6 nil? Waste of everyone's time!

Close to a hundred years. It goes to the best college football player.

The Heisman Trophy is an "award...created by the Downtown Athletic Club [New York] in 1935 to recognize the most valuable college football player..." for the year. Named for the Club's athletic director, John Heisman, the award was first given to John Berwanger, of the University of Chicago (a school that no longer plays football). I believe it is Ed Smith's figure that is depicted ^ in the statue atop the trophy...called the Heisman pose because so many players assume it whenever the cameras are clicking. Smith was a running back for New York University. (Mr. Smith did not realize until 1982 that the sculpture for which he posed was the Heisman, and he was given his own replica in 1985.)
Today, the Heisman Trophy is given out by the (now named) New York Athletic Club, to the most promising college football player in the nation. It is the most coveted prize in college football, and indeed, the winner sets the salary range for the next year's crop of professional players.
