Conventional wisdom tells us hate has no value. Hate is dangerous. Hate is harmful. And if we are to achieve social justice, we must put a stop to hate speech. Silence it by any means necessary.

But, what if the fight to stop hate speech is more harmful than the speech itself?

That's a tricky one. Hate speech that calls for violence is obviously dangerous. I can't see any value there that would outweigh the risk of harming people.

On the other hand, some might view someone saying that one race is superior to others as hate speech. I think that should be allowed, simply to see whether it catches on or not.

If it does, that says a lot about the ability (really the inability) of people to govern themselves. After all, human rights shouldn't be subject to the whims of democracy.

Its a difficult one Ben, but to me the issue really is free speech.
Not sure if you watched the video, but never tackling hate speech by countering. Denies people the ability to learn.
As stated, in fact those that seek to cancel hate speech end up amplifying them.
Take the Battle of Cable street. Which is often seen as a great victory against fascism.
When in reality it enhanced the hatred Jews suffered.
As stated, if you use violence against speech, it often backfires.
