I mean this is what frustrates me. I know we need to act over climate change, but these idiots using fear on people. Also obstructing the lives of people. Are doing more harm than good.To win over people to act. Andrew Neil tore this idiot apart and rightly so on their fear mongering. Which is making many kids upset over poor claims they have made. We need to win people on board to help combat climate change. Not ensure people on the fence go against this, which this idiotic group is ensuring

Yeah, I see what you're saying. I hate it when people, regardless of whether they have good intentions, try to scare people over the near certainty that future generations will be massively hurt all across the world unless we take immediate, drastic action.

And it's totally the fault of people who say that climate change is real that some people are on the fence about whether it's real. They should be on the fence about it themselves, because only equivocation will convince people of the completely non-scary threat that is posed by climate change, which is definitely real and a massive threat to the survival of the human race and many other earthly species.

How is obstructing life actually going to change anything, when its not going to change anything pother than the people being effected by such obstruction. The latest being a hospital being blocked by these protests. Not sure how a view to save future lives by actually potentially harming lives achives anything.

For things to change requires action by nations, which in reality many nations are already starting to do

It is bad enough when these idiots "obstruct people going about their lawful business" their right to protest does NOT overide, or even come close to in priority, MY right to go about my lawful business" (whatever that may be.

when they block a hospital that is endangering life, and if a death occurs which is able to be laid at their door the whole movement should be outlawed as a proscribed organisation and anyone and every one that can be identified as belonging to that group should be charged with and convicted of AT LEAST negligent manslaughter although murder would be more appropriate since there was malice in the mix.
further on their release they should be denied any medical access, since clearly blocking the hospital means that they were protesting against the existence of hospitals....

"Spokespersons" like her serve only to bring ridicule and contempt down on the real, science-based debate that is needed about climate change and its consequences.

"Extinction Rebellion" is to environmentalism, as PETA is to animal welfare & vegetarianism...


A bit of an overreaction on Victor's part, though, to have the police resort to firearms to clear a few dozen misbegotten 'rent a crowd' protestors  --  firehoses and bulldozers should be more than sufficient to push them aside..

As for making them a "proscribed" group, and charging everyone associated with them, over any negative outcomes --  a bit hard to do, when you look at how many of these protest groups are organised, and how they seem to rally a lot of supporters without actually signing them up.

A lot of them are "professional" complainers who come out any time there's a chance of a riot !

Yep...

A lot of professional agitators, "rent-a-crowd" protestors, ignorant "rebels without a cause", and a few troublemakers who will join any demonstration (whether left wing, right wing, or non-political..),  who are much more interested in the violence, mayhem and agro' rather than the actual cause itself..

All of these subgroups often doing more harm than good, through deflecting attention away from the actual issues that spawned the protests and onto their own attention-seeking and grandstanding foolishness.

There were similar demonstrations this week over here in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane (along with smaller and much more peaceful turnouts in regional areas..)  --  one in Sydney shown on the TV news today was more akin to a Gay Mardi Gras crowd meeting an 'Age of Aquarius' festival, complete with rainbow colours, drumming clowns and the usual showmen types ! 

Newsnight had the excellent idea of pitting a nutty Extinction Rebellion protester (and former Green Party councillor) up against an actual scientist and author of the IPCC report on Climate Change last night, and although the IPCC;s Myles Allen tried to be polite to XR’s Sarah Lunnon, he calmly shot down her increasingly erratic predictions of “six and a half billion people dying” and calls to overthrow capitalism to reach net zero emissions in a little over five years. Newsnight’s Emma Barnett did a good job exposing their hysteria for what it is, following in the footsteps of Andrew Neil…

The BBC would do well to stop giving loons at Extinction Rebellion airtime, especially when their increasingly baffling and anti-scientific claims are bemusing even IPCC scientists. XR would do well to heed their own banners and leaflets, which say “listen to the scientists” and “tell the truth”…

I have to defend the BBC on this one. The organisation's governing charter calls for the balanced and unbiased reporting of news and current affairs, and were legally acceptable groups such as Rebellion Extinction - however loony - to be denied access to airtime the Beeb would rightly be open to charges of suppression of free speech as well as being in breach of its own charter.

So long as the other side of an argument is presented, whether in a bilateral studio confrontation or in separate but editorially linked interviews, then the BBC will have fulfilled its charter obligations.

Surely from the point of view of the planet's health and that of the non human species reducing the human population by 6.5 billion can only be a good thing. There would still be over a billion and counting.

WELL WE WILL HAVE A CULL. Starting with extinction rebellion members and supporters, since clearly they MUST be in favour thereof, and as such should set an example, then there are plenty of others to choose from, starting with the abrahamic beleivers, the greens, the hunt sabs going on to corbyn supporters, vegans and anyone who cant show they are capable of living without vast amounts of technology and a mastery of the old ways of doing things....

This is what annoys me as they are champagne socialists all these extinction protestors and also commplete hypocrites
