Prediction: Sex Robots Are The Most Disruptive Technology We Didn't See Coming
At first glance, Harmony looks a bit like a chatbot got trapped inside an anatomically correct, life-size Barbie. But on closer inspection, it’s hard to shake the feeling that sex robots have the potential to thoroughly disrupt how we interact with technology, as well as how we interact with each other–and whether some not-insignificant portion of the population will opt out of interacting with humans altogether. Robots have been taking our jobs outside of the home. They are on the verge of replacing humans as providers of many of our more personal needs, from domestic work to intimacy. Is this inevitable? And is it even a bad thing?
The sex robot creator:
“I never set out with these specific goals in mind. I simply really enjoy what I'm doing artistically,” says Matt McMullen, CEO of Realbotix and RealDoll and creator of the sex robot, Harmony. “I like building this robot and seeing it move and talk and interact with people, what it does to them. It just opens up Pandora's box of psychology and science”
Will sex robots force us to face our own shortcomings in human relationships?
Depending on your perspective, McMullen is either a cynic or a realist. He takes issue with the idea that human-human relationships are inherently superior to human-machine.
“I don't think this is something that would be a fit for everyone. But I think there are certain people who it would be a perfect fit for. I think there are people who struggled greatly to connect with other people and this is a perfect thing for them. If it makes them happy and fills that empty spot they have, I think that's all that matters. So in one sense, you could say it's going to make things worse. But there are probably a ton of real-world relationships where one partner feels very much in love and the other does not, or the other partner maybe deceives and lies and so you're not getting the real deal anyway. The thing about AI and robots is they're not deceptive. They're not lying. They are what they are. If the AI is programmed to love you, at least you know that it's programmed to do that, it's not going to deviate from that goal.”
”The truth of the matter is that a lot of human relationships are broken and flawed and dysfunctional,” says McMullen. “A lot of people end up with partners that they're not truly happy with because they think that's all they're going to get. And they just settle into this rut. There's so many different ways to look at it, but at the end of the day, I think it boils down to the simple fact of, does this work for this person? The individual in question who finds this happiness with an AI-driven robot, and finds intimacy that they never had with another person–whose job does it become to intervene and say, ‘no, you can't do that. That's not right.’ I think it's one of the biggest human flaws that we try to change each other and we try to take our own worldview and superimpose it on everyone else. Because if we feel a certain way or we've had a certain set of experiences, we feel that everyone should kind of follow that same roadmap. I think there are people out there that may never form human relationships. They may not have the capacity for that...The bottom line is, if the robot, if the AI is making a person feel love, and they really feel it, does it matter if it's real or not?”

Anybody who thinks they feel love from a machine is an idiot in my opinion, but I'll concede that that's up for them to either figure out or not figure out.
Also sounds like a great way to avoid working on serious issues in your life. Just drop out and have sex with a robot, which in the end is just a technologically advanced blow-up doll.

Yeah I’m thinking that if you have to get your kicks or perversions from a robot then you ain’t with the right partner.

Either that, or you're not ready for a partner. These so-called "involuntary celibates" (incels) who seem to harbor hatred toward women because a woman they fancied wouldn't have sex with them, even though they're "nice," spring to mind.
It all seems like a way to avoid growing up. Like fat people who embrace fattitude and complain about "fatphobia," it's just another way for people to say that there's nothing wrong with them, it's the rest of the world that's in the wrong.
Let's face it, the market for sex bots is men -- very few women, by comparison, will be interested in a male-looking sex bot. And any man who can get a sex bot and think he's replaced women is a pathetic man-child, only interested in gratification.
I can't believe anyone's had enough bad experiences with women that they're ready to give up on the entire sex. Men who think they're at that point probably would be better off having a good long think about what they're putting out there and whether the women they've been going for are really what they want.

Nicko, I get that you don’t like Wolfie, but he hasn’t commented in this thread so I may suggest that you take the stance of just not being the one who “starts it”.
Someone has to start somewhere. Or we are just kids in a playground. And I’m tired of that.
What do you think of sex robots?

Why would I want even one ?
Even if I did want one some day, I still couldn't afford it..
What you should be hoping for is maybe one day they could transplant your brain into a robot body -- then you could live forever; and keep on trolling us 'lefties' to your heart's content...

Yeah, sometimes people just don’t have that sexual chemistry or any mental connection with their partner.
