Dehumanizing Always Starts With Language
01.When the president of the United States calls immigrants animals or talks about grabbing pussy, we should get chills down our spine and resistance flowing through our veins. When people call the president of the United States a pig, we should reject that language regardless of our politics and demand discourse that doesn’t make people subhuman.
02.If you are offended or hurt when you hear Hillary Clinton or Maxine Waters called bitch, whore, or the c-word, you should be equally offended and hurt when you hear those same words used to describe Ivanka Trump, Kellyanne Conway, or Theresa May.
03.If you’re offended by a meme of Trump Photoshopped to look like Hitler, then you shouldn’t have Obama Photoshopped to look like the Joker on your Facebook feed.
04.When we hear people referred to as animals or aliens, we should immediately wonder, “Is this an attempt to reduce someone’s humanity so we can get away with hurting them or denying them basic human rights?”
There is a line. It’s etched from dignity. And raging, fearful people from the right and left are crossing it at unprecedented rates every single day. We must never tolerate dehumanization—the primary instrument of violence that has been used in every genocide recorded throughout history.
When we engage in dehumanizing rhetoric or promote dehumanizing images, we diminish our own humanity in the process. When we reduce immigrants to animals like Trump did earlier this week, it says nothing at all about the people we’re attacking. It does, however, say volumes about who we are and our integrity.

I don't think that the sort of people who love Trump also love civility. I think they hate it, actually, and they really just want to see pain come to the people they hate.
I'd love to be proven wrong.

I completely agree with points 1-4.
People do it all the time. It’s total hypocrisy.

I prefer the company of some animals to many humans that I have encountered over the years...
The author of that article in the O/P is an arrogant sophist dickhead speciesist -- who made him/her the judge to describe pigs or any other animals as "sub-human" ???
Calling Donnie the Dumpster a "pig", or indeed any animal, would be a gross insult to that species..
(P.S. Nobody will ever accuse me of being a 'people person' ).

That's not cute, and I did read the post in its entirety.
I just wonder how well this message would go over with Trump supporters. Tell them to stop dehumanizing the left and see how that goes down.
I know a Trump supporter in Fort Worth who thinks that black people make up half the population of America (more like 13 percent) and that all they do is sit around, smoking crack and cashing welfare checks. And this guy is wealthy and intelligent!
I think irrational hate for the left is built-in for many, if not most, of Trump's supporters. So this once again feels like the sort of thing the right says when they want their people to be treated more nicely, with no intention of treating the left more nicely.
For my own part, I already agreed with the points raised in the OP long before I read this post, and that's why you won't catch me using de-humanizing language. But I'm very skeptical as to how the OP's message will go down with the hardcore right.

People can be very, very good, or very, very bad. "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone".
Speech is not the problem; actions are. Trump talks shocking trash all the time. It's when someone grabs an AR-15 and goes hunting in a Walmart in El Paso, that the evil begins.
Guns don't kill people; people do. But people don't have triggers; guns do.

the trouble is....and the reality of it is, that in this world there are people, (generally individuals, but also a very few groups of individuals) who are NOT worthy of being considered "humans", by any measure of what humanity should mean.....and IMO these should be removed from the gene pool with extreme prejudice.

But we don't prosecute for words. We do prosecute for acts. That's why Trump still walks, while Patrick Crusius is in lock-up.
Speech facilitates atrocities; so do guns. But here, speech and guns are both protected by the US Constitution. So, to say that they are evil in their consequence, is to score only philosophical points.

The Third Reich would never have gained the foothold that they did in the 1930s, if their economy hadn't been so badly crippled by the allied victors as punishment for World War One...
In much the same way that the Bolsheviks took control of Russia away from the greedy and uncaring Romanovs; and the communists in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos won out in the end; having a poor economy, high levels of unemployment and poverty, and few real opportunities to look forward to, presents a country ripe for extremists to gain control..

The point I was making was about only one side. I'm not going to drag a bunch of people I'm not familiar with (the so-called American "far left," yes, all 198 of them) just to create some false balance, like I'm some "both sides are equally bad" libertarian.

They ain't liberal, just ask them. (Protect yourself if you do.)
I know, they don't completely fit the traditional definition of conservative, but it's a bit like Quill's recent thread -- who the fuck knows what conservative even means anymore, outside of irrational hatred for anything identified as leftist in the media?
I still want to believe that there are principled conservatives out there, but I think they're all hiding out with George Will in a well-appointed mansion, smoking fine cigars and drinking brandy while reading William F. Buckley, or some shit.

Of course not, what a weird question. There are some who are a hair-tick to the left and others who are left of AOC, don't see what that has to do with this.
Unless you're trying to say I class all conservatives as far-right, or think they all think the same, which would be lame. I've been careful to say that my point was about fervent Trump supporters, not all conservatives.
I've been around enough of them to know that the thought of liberals (I say the thought because I doubt many of them have gotten to know a liberal) makes them angry and often dehumanizing.
The intolerance I've seen has been much more from the right than from the left. I can't speak for the whole of the left, of course, but to me, the left is much more live and let live than the right.
I would no sooner fuck around with the lifestyle of a straight, white, Christian couple raising a family in the South than I would a gay Puerto Rican couple living in the middle of New York City, etc.
My priorities are: No victimless crimes, no wars of aggression, protect the environment, tax each person or business according to what they can afford, and take care of the vulnerable through government programs.
Outside of that, I don't care if you're a conservative Christian or a conservative Muslim, or Irish-American gay or Anglo bigamist.
Trump supporters are some of the least tolerant people I've ever seen, in my view far more prone to dehumanizing others, and that's why I chose them when I made my point.
The only example I ever see people cite of the left supposedly trying to force conservatives to do something they don't want to do is taxation, which has always struck me as a very weak argument.

Re: Dehumanizing Always Starts With Language
When the president of the United States calls immigrants animals or talks about grabbing pussy, we should get chills down our spine and resistance flowing through our veins. When people call the president of the United States a pig, we should reject that language regardless of our politics and demand discourse that doesn’t make people subhuman.
