Boris Johnson gets his bounce: Poll finds 10% rise in support for Tories with him as PM - but delaying an election boosts Labour if party ditches Jeremy Corbyn
Boris Johnson's move into Downing Street has led to a surge in support for the Conservatives, an exclusive Mail on Sunday poll has found.
Replacing Theresa May with Mr Johnson has given the Tories a ten-point 'Boris bounce' and a five-point lead over Labour.
But the pressure on Mr Johnson to call a snap General Election during his 'honeymoon' period will be increased by the survey's finding that if Labour ditches Jeremy Corbyn as leader, the Tories would trail by six points.
It comes as Home Secretary Priti Patel today unveils Mr Johnson's tough new immigration policy in this newspaper, vowing to make Britain 'the greatest country on earth' by seizing the 'once-in-a-lifetime opportunity offered by the end of free movement'.

All his bold plans and intentions are uncosted.
He has insufficient funds to build , recruit and develop what he wants..He intends to give huge tax breaks to the wealthiest in society, earning over £50k, so the obvious and simplest fundraise is an increase to income tax on the basic rate of 20% to perhaps 22% or even 25%.
I suspect a lot of bad news in the autumn budget.

Sadly, all such electoral "promises" made by leaders of all parties deserve to be treated with a jumbo packet of Saxa. Remember Tony Blair's battle cry of "education, education, education"...followed, after victory at the polls, by the UK sinking from the top echelons of the OECD international academic achievements listing in key subjects to well below the half way mark?
Or John McDonnell's "carefully costed" pre-election programme in which Corbyn proudly promised to end tuition fees and eliminate student debt....only for a hapless Labour Party minion having to admit three weeks after after the election had been lost that "....we didn't realise how much it was going to cost."

It is going to turn ugly, Fred.
Brexit won't be all sweetness and light , as promised.
The farmers are going to suffer, the poor will too, and inflation looks set to soar as we will have to have import tariffs making imports that much more expensive.
A 10% import duty will cost more than that in the shops as VAT is added to the purchase price+ import duty.
The only way to offset that is to reduce VAT on imports, which won't happen.
Boris has real problems ahead after selling Brexit as easy and for everyone.
It ain't!

Pretty pathetic contribution by a pretty pathetic individual and moderator, to a reasonable debate from opposising views, but remaining respectful and polite.

Not particularly predictions, Gels, more anecdotal from the media.
Boris Johnson says he’ll spend, but who will pay?
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/jul/29/boris-johnson-says-hell-spend-but-who-will-pay?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Copy_to_clipboard
Regardless, Hammond left him about £20 billion as a Brexit reserve, but that only for year 1..He has no money for other projects..And even less if he goes ahead with his tax CUT for those earning over £50k.

Which means, once again as befits your politics, you are not only bitter and twisted but a liar to boot..a true corbynista.

well if we at least pay the eu a bit less than we have, even if we dont cut out payments altogether, that would be as start.
plus taking some out of the huge foreign aid budget
in any case, corbyn is promising lifelong freebies for everyone,,,,,how exactly is he intending to pay for his promises.

Your opinion was wrong, because the person I mentioned thought the limericks was amusing and not offensive.
Ben agreed and overturned your biased decision.
All that time , you were allowing truly offensive racist posts from a now deleted poster.
As a mod, you shouldn't let personal animosity get in the way you do.

More evidence that Johnson has recruited from the far right. A sector who don't give a shit for the poor, disabled, law and order or the NHS.

Well, once again I'll say it.....
You reap what you sow and this clusterfuck is the result of labour's failings and barmy policies. With no credible alternative what do you expect. Who wants a return to the politics of the 70s and the 3day week.?

This really proves how shockingly bad Labour is under Corbyn
I mean after everything and how bad the Tories have been. They are now way in the lead again. That says volumes in how bad Corbyn is, that now the Libs have gained on them

That fabled "BoJo bounce" didn't last long, though, did it !!!
Pound down;
Stockmarket down;
Some dam done sprung a leak;
Majority in parliament just reduced to one.
34% approval rating ? 1% more than Hitler's party in the early 1930s..

Erring towards Lib Dems, but the Independant group has a certain appeal as do the Greens, but neither have much political clout.
That said, Corbyn HAS been demonized by the rw press, lead by Murdoch , aided by the Spectator, Express and Mail..
That might come back to bite them IF Labour ditch Corbyn for a more centrist and less bellicose and belligerent leader.

Well he was still bouncing when I last looked, but you still don't get the significance of the situation, do you? For Her Majesty's "loyal" Opposition to be 10 points behind a deeply unpopular and severely troubled Government and party mid way through a quinquennial electoral cycle is disastrous for Labour. Under a politician of the stature and potential of someone like Yvette Cooper, Keir Starmer or Dan Jarvis they should be 10, 15 or even 20 points in front.
Yes, the pound is down...but that, like the curate's egg, is good in parts...good if you are employed in an exporting industry; bad if you are just about to go and give yourself skin cancer on the Costa Brava. An increasing number of UK holiday members are discovering the delights that our own country has to offer, storms and tempests notwithstanding, and the fact that their dosh stays here rather than filling the boots of the French, Spanish, Greeks and Italians strikes me as being not too bad a thing.
Yes, the stock market is down - though ever-fluctuating and not all that much, and also from an historic high. What stock markets are NOT up and down like yo-yos given the global economic turnmoil.
Yes, a 200 year old earth damn has sprung a leak....no doubt after Boris drilled a hole in it to create a photo opportunity for himself and after unprecedented rainfall on previously parched and hilly terrain. If Labour took a leaf out of that little Dutch boy's book and amended it slightly, using a head first Corbyn instead of a juvenile digit, then Whaley Bridge might be saved...and at least some useful purpose would have been found for the Mad Marxist.
Yes, Boris has a majority of one (sic); but a majority of one is still a majority bearing in mind the minority exists only with the co-operation and combined voting power of every MP of every other party in the House....including the Scottish and Welsh Nationalists whose avowed aim is to destroy the UK!
And, since you just can't help scraping the bottom of the barrel for some stick, no matter how puny, with which to beat the Brits....... didn't Hitler and his Nazi Party go on to win?
