Nearly 200 million people could be displaced by sea levels rising more quickly than previously predicted
(CNN)Global sea levels could rise more than two meters (6.6 feet) by the end of this century if emissions continue unchecked, swamping major cities such as New York and Shanghai and displacing up to 187 million people, a new study warns.
The study, which was released Monday, says sea levels may rise much faster than previously estimated due to the accelerating melting of ice sheets in both Greenland and Antarctica.
The international researchers predict that in the worst case scenario under which global temperatures increase by 5 degrees Celsius (9 degrees Fahrenheit) by 2100, sea levels could rise by more than two meters (6.6 feet) in the same period -- double the upper limit outlined by the UN climate science panel's last major report.
Such a situation would be "catastrophic," the authors of the study warn.
"It really is pretty grim," lead author Jonathan Bamber, a Professor of Physical Geography at the University of Bristol told CNN. "Two meters is not a good scenario."
He said the mass displacement of people in low-lying coastal areas would likely result in serious social upheaval. It would also pose an "existential threat" to small island nations in the Pacific which would be left pretty much uninhabitable.

There are no winners in climate change. Any place that is relatively unaffected by global warming can expect to be inundated by people who have lost their homes, particularly from coastal areas but also from countries near the Equator which will become uninhabitable due to extreme heat.

Why must liberals be so dramatic?

Why must the "libertarians" and other assorted corporatist suckups be such a clueless bunch of denialist 'snowflakes'...
While those Pollyannas like Maddog and Tommy keep on keeping on as if nothing is happening, there are plenty of groups that are planning for a future with evermore human-induced accelerating climate change..
Not only the UN, environmental activists and various research bodies, but also the Pentagon, the military in Russia, Canada, Norway, Sweden; the governments of many Pacific islands, places like New Zealand and Queensland factoring in future migrations; many farmers, fishers and foresters already planning for changes over coming decades.

I bet the climate change deniers like. Tommy, Skunk and Mad Dog won't be buying houses on low lying coastal town.
They will head for the hills because of the rising seas levels caused by the very global warming they deny.

I'm not a denier. I just think it's being used to manipulate people.

COULD is the operative word. Aliens COULD invade. I seem to remember al gore saying the Arctic would be ice free by 2012, not could WOULD.
But it is a great way to make you feel good then they fleece you for your taxes to fill budget black holes.
the climate is changing and there is little that we can do about that. Some of the suggestion's by "scientists" seem down right dangerous.

Really?
This video helps you find out the data for yourself
You need to actually read what climate scientists say and not the media or politicians

the models being used to predict man made climate change are flawed. It's why nature is not doing what they predict.
the planet has warmed and cooled throughout history, sometimes very quickly.,

Well for a start you certainly never watched the video and you keep making an unfounded claim
Within the video it points you in the right direction to look at the data
Well its evident the earth has warmed and cooled throughout its history, but now its warming at a rapid rate caused by humans
In every single previous episode there is known factors for why there was a rise in tempreture and cooling
Happy to post more information on this for you if you like, but it would help if you watch and then actually research the data.
As I bet you never actually have and simple taken skeptic claims on faith alone
Here is many videos for you that guide you to the data

Its up to you, if you are really interested in looking at this scientifically, or continue to look politically as you are

That's pretty immature of you. I called you dramatic because you said that being a resident of California is the same thing as being a slave.

Okay ben, when did you call out wolf's comments on maddog?
I saw Maddog being ironic on this point taking the piss out of a number of posters. Who think their shit smells better than most based on geography
Ben youa re dramatic and that is a good thing. Why take that as a an insult? If you view things as an insult. Then you create barriers in front of you. Ask yourself, what is wrong with being dramatic? I dont see that as an insult? Why do you?

I mean Ben , you live for Drama as a writer. As a news writer. Why would you take that as an insult?
I would take that as a compliment as me being a writer and as a gift
The problem with you, Maddog etc. You take everything in the negative form. ( why I know, as I often do the same)
See the plus side in what has been said
You are a great writer and you take offense over being called dramatic
Explain to me, how that is even a bad thing?

I mean goodness, how is a play on words, able to make poeople act like utter pussies
For example and respect Maddog is not like this, but say a word and some poster are completely triggered (including me). That they take always the negative conception of a word or an insult and fail to even understand to be able to turn this around and use this to their advantage.
I mean Ben you are a writer and would get offended here? I have actually in the past looked up to you. ( I still do) When you never did. At what was being said. You are allowing yourself to become fragile mate
I hold you in high ragards but dont make dumb play on words. As when you think about them negativelly, they actually show you in a poor light.

How to sum this up. Ben, if you claim that you have never used a story to be dramatic. Then you are a liar. As its drama, that you have used to sell stories for the paper you worked with.
At least I am honest mate and see people for who they are.

You're full of shit, DYKbrain...
Where are your proofs to demonstrate that any models are "flawed"..
All I have ever seen you and your fellow troll smelly' doing on here is parroting various climate denialist lies, without actually arguing your case, or providing any evidence to back up those lies.
At least Tommy Monk tries to argue his case, even if those arguments keep on falling over at every turn..
