A survivor of female genital mutilation has revealed how the morning of the procedure was made to 'feel like Christmas' in a heartbreaking interview.

Hoda Ali, a sexual health nurse and activist, recalled the day she was was 'cut' when she was just seven years old at home in Somalia.

'So the morning I had FGM it was like Christmas to me,' she said in the interview on Channel 4 documentary 100 Vaginas.

'Imagine being seven years old and having a massive party where you know there's a woman coming to do your henna, and another woman coming to do your hair. It was amazing.'

Hoda, who now lives in the UK, revealed the procedure left her with an opening 'no bigger than a matchstick head' and the decades of complications have left her unable to have children.

FGM = too brutal for words, downright disgusting. What a Face

The people who criticise it do not necessarily care about the victims tho, they only use it as a convenient political tool. (I don't mean you, Thor, I am referring to posts I have read in many different forums down the years)

Grudges brought over from one thread to have a dig in another....this seems to be happening a lot lately.
It spoils the debate and takes it off course.

FGM,,,barbaric. And it's about time the police and authorities started taking this seriously and prosecuting known offenders.
It's bad enough when girls are sent abroad to be butchered, but it's also been happening in the UK for decades.

From Feb 2019.

"A woman whose three-year-old daughter was subjected to female genital mutilation (FGM) has become the first person in the UK to be convicted for the practice.
The mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had her daughter cut at their London home but then called 999 because the girl was bleeding heavily.
Police were alerted by hospital staff who did not believe the woman’s claim that the girl had fallen off a kitchen worktop onto a cupboard door, while trying to get a biscuit.

The 37-year-old mother, from Uganda, maintained her story throughout an Old Bailey trial but was convicted of FGM on Friday. She wept in the dock as the jury read the verdict.
The girl’s father, a 43-year-old Ghanaian man, was was cleared of all charges after less than a day of deliberations."
