'It is our future': children call time on climate inaction in UK
“As students we don’t have the vote, and it is really unfair because this is going to impact on us the most. It is our future,”
Evie Baldwin, 15, from north London
Thousands of young people take time out of school to join protests across the country

Good for them!
Evie Baldwin, 15, from north London
Thousands of young people take time out of school to join protests across the country
Some wore school uniform, with ties askew in St Trinian’s fashion, others donned face paint, sparkly jackets and DM boots. The youngest clutched a parent’s hand as people gathered in the sunshine in Parliament Square in London, a few metres from the politicians they say are letting down a generation.
They carried homemade placards, with slogans full of humour, passion and hope that the voices of thousands of children and young people would be heard.
“March now – or swim later”, “I’ve seen smarter cabinets in Ikea” and “denial is not a policy” read the banners, as chants for action on climate change grew and strengthened with the passing hours into a deafening roar. “What do we want? Climate action! When do we want it? Now!”
Across the UK it was a day for thousands who are not normally heard, as children took time out of their lessons to attend the strike.

Greta Thunberg is a smart kid. A descendant of a top scientist and climate change activist. She started this school-skipping movement. Whether or not you agree with her politics she's certainly very driven, gotta give her that.

No doubt some of these kids know what they are talking about, but most are just taking advantage of the chance to skip school.
And if you were to press them an some questions they would sound like a Miss America contestant talking about how she is opposed to world hunger.

I call it being realistic.eddie wrote:What a cynical dog you are, Maddog.
No doubt many of these kids think climate change is going to kill us in a few years. There are alarmist adults saying the same thing.
I also know that getting out of class and hanging with classmates at a protest is a hell of a lot more fun than doing algebra or reading Shakespeare.

I dont think that is what some of these kids in the know and parents are saying at all.
I imagine they are rightly saying. That if we do not act. Then the world will reach a turning point, we then cannot control. One which will in time bring untold death and suffering to the world.
I mean when people warned of Hitler. Were they being alarmists or realists?
I would say they are the ones being realistic then, just as people are realistic about the man made effects we are having on climate change

I think climate change and immigration need to be addressed, but the fear of climate change and immigrants is way overblown.
Fear is ine of the most commonly used tools of politicians. It's how they motivate people. Facts are not nearly as effective.

How is it overblown?
Both actually will go hand in hand in the future, if again we do not act.
As what do you think will happen in areas, that become unihabitable?
Areas that become below sea level?
The effects of this are already happenning year on year
I mean we have already seen hundreds of thousands of immigrants because of climate change. Which will bring about more conflicts as well when nations suffer months and months of drought.
The number of immigrants will turn into tens of millions because of climate change
All roads and doors lead to climate change

Tell me, what do you know about climatology that the experts do not?
Maddog wrote:Fear is ine of the most commonly used tools of politicians. It's how they motivate people. Facts are not nearly as effective.
Fear is a conservative manipulative device. To expand it to universal, conservatives must project the self onto others. I don't buy it. It's not rational left.
I'd just rather believe the experts, and let the alt.right go among their own and stir up fake beliefs. When they drop into the sink-hole beneath their beliefs, we can look back and laugh.
Meanwhile, as soon as leftist take over in America, we will declare a national emergency and order controls to curtail climate change.

We will be fine.
We are getting cleaner, and cleaner with our energy uses.
I'm tired of politicians trying to scare me about climate change, immigration, guns, crime or drugs in an attempt to use that fear to stay in power.
If there isn't something to fear, some sort of enemy they are saving us from, they will create one.

The likley prediction based on current trend, is around 2100
You think immigrants fleeing climate disasters in Bangladesh is down to shitty governements?
You still cannot grasp it can you?
Whenm the world suffers bigger flooding and worst droughts. The later meaning people lack water. What do you think is going to happen?
People have always fought over resources and that is exactly what will happen, when people dont have a basic one in water or food. When their crops fail. The previous year South Africa suffered one of the worst droughts in history
The reality I say to climate deniers, even though you are not is this.
In all the worst cycles of climate change in the past, what happened?
mas extinction
Except this time, we will be the cause of that
We will be fine.
We are getting cleaner, and cleaner with our energy uses.

Its not politicians
If it was, they would have acted by now. Some have brought about half measures, but its not enough
The possible scenarios are coming from many climate scientists
So on that factor you are again wrong
We know the climate can does bring devastation to the planet and each year we are seeing more and more disasters due to cglobal warming
Its hardly a coincidence is it?

I know as much about climatology as a policitican and the use of fear doesn't discriminate by party.Original Quill wrote:Maddog wrote:
I think climate change and immigration need to be addressed, but the fear of climate change and immigrants is way overblown.
Tell me, what do you know about climatology that the experts do not?Maddog wrote:Fear is ine of the most commonly used tools of politicians.

You mean realism about climate change?
I dont think the new proposal by Cortez, would make any difference, based on the need of electricity with trains
Why not listen to people who are experts then
This is one even smelly can relate to. She is an evangical Christian and a climate scientist

Yes. Let's listen to experts. I doubt these kids in this story have done that. They are being frightened by politicians and other non experts.Thor wrote:Maddog wrote:
