A member of the SAS helped save hundreds of lives when he charged into gunfire to rescue civilians trapped during a terrorist attack in Nairobi.

A mission mounted by Kenyan forces on Wednesday ended a 20-hour assault on 14 Riverside, a luxury hotel and office complex in one of the city's most affluent districts, killing at least some of the perpetrators. Uhuru Kenyatta, the Kenyan president, said that 14 civilians were killed before the attack was ended in one of the biggest military operations ever mounted in the capital.

At least one Briton was killed and one other badly wounded, amid fears that the true death toll could be higher after the Kenyan Red Cross disclosed that as many as 50 people remained unaccounted for. The unidentified SAS soldier, reportedly in Kenya to train and mentor local special forces, often appeared to be at the forefront of the operation, frequently pictured bringing civilians to safety.

Although on non-combat deployment, he raced to the scene within the first hour of the attack, wearing body armour over civilian clothes and a balaclava to cover his face.

In one photograph from the scene, he carries the limp, bleeding body of a victim. Another shows the soldier bursting into the hotel complex with his special forces issue C8 Diemaco rifle drawn.

He reportedly worked with US Navy Seals, operating under Kenyan command, during the mission.

British special forces, who regularly train the equivalent troops of foreign nations, are not meant to engage in any direct combat on such missions.

However, the Telegraph understands that no action is to be taken against the SAS man who acted in Kenya, and that his decision to involve himself in the life-saving operation is considered to be a fine example of the ethos of British Special Forces.

Indeed mate

Just reading this article and read this bit by the author of the article

On the SAS Anti-Terrorist team I became the demonstration pistol shot and could take a 9mm Browning from a holster and put 18 rounds into a two-inch target in less than three-and-a-half seconds.

Quite a few of these people come from a very bad background and join the army to get away from it, it seems, then go on to make very successful special forces personnel.
One man on a programme the other night recalled his early life in a city in Scotland had been nothing but violence, the list of injuries he sustained was awful.
He joked that the children were searched going into school for weapons and that if you were found not to have any, you were given one.
He freely admitted he enjoyed the action during his time in the SAS
including shooting the enemy.
He is now a successful barrister.

That claim re: the Browning 9mm handgun is an exaggeration --  or else that person's memory is failing him...

The magazine clips hold either 12 or 15 rounds..
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Browning_Hi-Power
http://www.5rar.asn.au/weapons/9mm-browning-pistol.htm
So, the most he would have fired is 12 or 15 + 1 in the chamber = 13 or 16.
Or else he could have used two pistols ?  Or two clips/magazines..

Then again, emptying just one 12-round clip into one's opponent will certainly slow them down.

(The Browning 9mm was one of the weapons I trained with in the Army Reserves (16 Transport Sqdn, Adamstown..) back in the 1980s..

Or you are out of touch mate with newer models and this was back in 2012

Its already known that the SAS adapt weapons, so in no way do I doubt the story mate
