Re: Did Jeremy call Theresa a stupid woman?
"Stupid woman"? Bah, that's not an insult (even if I don't agree with the sentiment).
An example of a real political insult was when a Member of Parliament told Disraeli: "Sir, you will either die on the gallows or of some unspeakable disease...", to which Dizzy famously replied: "That depends, Sir, on whether I embrace your policies or your mistress."

Re: Did Jeremy call Theresa a stupid woman?
I am sure politicians from all sides have called and been called their opponents far worse.
Being called stupid isn't even offensive in a playground of 5 year olds.
By making a play of it, the Conservatives are drawing attention to their Brexit shortcomings.
Whether you voted stay of leave, few want the debate and vote over May's deal delayed until 14th January. It should have been debated yesterday, and voted on, with the finer points coming out this week..
It seems a classic case of May stalling for time - There will be no more concessions from the EU, the reason for the 18 day delay is bewildering.

I think the most telling thing about this is he is trying to squirm his way out of it.
Far better had he stood up and said "Yep....she was acting stupidly so I called her out on it". Instead he has shown himself up to be a weak little man who doesn't have the balls to back up his remark.

Well I never liked her, but the way she has stood up to all the back stabbing lately is pretty impressive.
He on the other hand has shown himself to be weak...playing to the crowd...nodding when required, and lying when caught out.

The daft thing is, whatever Corbyn thought, mouthed or nay or may not have murmered, pales into insignificance to the torrents of honking abuse he receives from the Conservative benches during PMQ's..
And those doing the most honking are probably the most offended and outraged by Corbyns silent utterance.

Oh, come on Andy, all governments are "honked" at by MPs on t'opposite side of the chamber - it's why they are called HM Opposition.
Dammit, man, things used to be so rowdy in the past that the auhorities even had to ban the wearing of swords!
Meanwhile, I'm not one naturally to spring to the defence of Jeremby Corbyn, but to describe his "utterance", correctly or incorrectly interpreted, as "sexist" is daft. Had the PM described a Labour member as "a stupid man" a few eyebrows might have been raised at her uncharacteristic use of unparliamentary language, but "sexist"??????
Rene Artois used to do it all the time!

Obviously a lot of people have made a mountain out of a molehill, but in this day and age, where women will no longer be put into little boxes, for the leader of the opposition to talk down to the PM because she is a woman....well it's not on.
Personally I think the most offensive thing is he lied....and who can trust a liar?

Sorry, Syl, but much as it sticks in my gullet to defend Corbyn I really, honestly don't think that he was "talking down to the PM" because she is a woman...he was apparently talking down to the PM who just happens to be a woman.
There's a big diffrerence.
What else should he have said? "Stupid person"? "Stupid human"? "Stupid Tory who wears kitten heels"?
Women, whether they happen to be the Prime Minister or the lady who pulls pints in the local pub, have an absolute right to be both regarded and treated as equals to men. No-one here will defend that principle more strongly than I.
But unless we are all to be forced to accept the totally batty concept that no distinction should ever be made between the anatomical difference between male and female in every day conversational language, then referring to "men" and "women" is natural, normal and above all perfectly acceptable, even in this age of silly political correctness.

The thing is..she is a woman. If he thinks she's stupid, then what he's said isn't really an insult to womankind, is it? I still don't like him though, and I do think he's a closet chauvinist.

So it transpires it is the Conservative MP's who are the snowflakes..
Paradoxically, on here it is Nicko who is most offended.
I wonder whether he was ever called stupid during his squaddie training by his sargeant. It bet he was, and It bet it was far worse than that, and I reckon he wasn't offended but just took it.

Would he have sneered 'stupid man' if it had been a male who had irked him though?
I doubt it, and he would probably be one of the first to kick up a fuss if one of the opposing party had said the same of a labour women.
But it's the fact he lied trying to squirm his way out of it.....I actually think he may have gained a bit more respect if he had openly stated he said it and meant it.

In fairness Wolfie, Fred hasn't lambasted Corbyn over this, it wasn't sexist, neither was it particularly rude, just a very mild insult. They are politicians, if they cannot stomach being considered stupid, they are in the wrong profession.
Now THIS might be considered offensive.
It is where the MP sitting directly behind May called Yvette Cooper a bitch.

Re: Did Jeremy call Theresa a stupid woman?
I see my friends on the left are still suffering from ostrich parasitic syndrome, in regards to this thread.
I doubt anyone on the right is bothered over the feminine terminology on what Corbyn called May as stupid. I certainly am not bothered, but what again this proves beyond doubt. Is Corbyn, is yet again utterly dishonest.
Its as clear as day he said stupid women and instead of simple owning up to this and saying poor choice of words and apologizing. He instead completely lies and claims he said people not women. How many times is this man going to get caught out lying? This is the man who pallies up to Islamic extremists, antisemites and the IRA. Where again he does a volte face and deny all knowledge.
Now I think May is completely stupid, but Corbyn is not only stupid, as far worse in the dishonesty department, more than May. Which is saying something. The fact he is more unpopular that May. Even though there is a mess with Brexit. Tells you everything you need to know that Corbyn is a liability to Labour.

Many people who get older also get wiser then they understand the worth of cherished ideas and ideals, many of them have in their inexperienced youth wished for change which would throw the baby out with the bathwater. They had wanted to change everything even the good stuff that has made their life as comfortable as it is, at the speed of light, without much in depth thought but then they mature and understand the value of things and hopefully try and see the whole picture before they leap into the future. Its not that they don't want change but whether its change for change sake or whether it is for the good in the long run.

Re: Did Jeremy call Theresa a stupid woman?
Jeremy Corbyn lashed out at journalists asking him whether he branded the PM a 'stupid woman' today. A clearly furious Labour leader accused the media of being 'utterly obsessed', before posting a Twitter video with his face just inches from the camera in which he insists he called the Tory government 'stupid people'.
Asked on Thursday morning by a BBC reporter whether the language he used was 'respectful', he replied: 'I muttered it to myself, actually, in Parliament and you and your colleagues in the media seem utterly obsessed with this.
'The fact that a homeless man died outside Parliament has got no coverage whatsoever, and it should.'
MailOnline has extensively covered the death of Gyula Remes yesterday, alongside all other national media.
And Mr Corbyn himself returned to Parliament to state he did not say 'stupid woman'.
Mr Corbyn added this morning: 'The respectful nature of Parliament is important and a whole load of Tory MPs turning the issue of a no-deal Brexit into a pantomime, that is serious.'
Then this afternoon on his personal Twitter account the Labour leader posted a reply to his critics, seemingly filmed on a smartphone in his home with his face just inches from the lens.
The Tweet read: ‘Yesterday the Tories and much of the media created a phoney row about something I didn’t say. Here’s why…’
Then in a video his voiceover goes on: 'Yesterday the Tories tried to turn Parliament into a pantomime. Tried to turn it into a pantomime when there are very serious issues.
‘I was accused of saying something I didn’t say. Did I say “stupid people”? Yeah, I did.
'Because I think they are. Because I think Parliament into a pantomime is an act of unbelievable stupidity.
'They should be facing up to the real issues that people in our country face about the danger of a no deal Brexit with all the chaos that will bring and serious issues about poverty, universal credit and homelessness within our society.’
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6516653/You-utterly-obsessed-Angry-Corbyn-digs-journalists.html
So, Corbyn is becoming or should I say. Has always been as delusional as Trump. They play the same misdirection tactic and then create new lies. Around a victimology mentality. Now claiming there was no coverage to the death of the Homelessman outside parliment. (it shows how out of touch with reality he is and has zero integrety) In the desperate hope, and delusional stance, that the vast majority of people believe him?

Yes of course! She’s black! Keep up Syl.
I also got accused of racism when I said Michelle Obama looked like a bloke. Which she does. And she’d still look like one if she bleached her skin whiter than mine.

Yes of course! She’s black! Keep up Syl.
I also got accused of racism when I said Michelle Obama looked like a bloke. Which she does. And she’d still look like one if she bleached her skin whiter than mine.
The world is full of blundering idiots.
I remember the Michelle Obama comments.

The problem is, you picked that line up on one of those conservative websites you visit. Some southern cracker was wisecrack'n he'd heard about how Michelle is a lesbian.
There are tons of such lines out there:
Obama is a Muslim.
Obama wasn't born in the US.
Michelle is a lesbian.
Etc., etc., etc.
When you repeat one of their lines, you become identified with their sympathies. It's fair to raise any issue, but when it's one that is prebranded as an alt.right amulet, it's hard to avoid

From what I recall we were just chatting about how women, unlike men, are often judged on their looks rather than their abilities.Original Quill wrote:eddie wrote:

I rarely visit any political websites or media pages - where did you pluck that out of? Your arse?
I never said she was a lesbian, not once. I’ve never even read a rumour about her being a lesbian....where did you read that, on one of those conservatives websites that you visit?
You have an awful habit of assuming and also a terrible problem with recall. And you shouldn’t keep plucking things out of your arse
It makes for an awful lot of hot wind.

Yes we were Syl, my recall is perfect mostly. But of course, now it has to be about right wing left wing groundhogday wing.
