The 'Strictly' curse strikes again.
First topic message reminder :
Marriages and relationships have often been broken when people have paired up with their dance partners on TV's Strictly come dancing..and promptly fell for them.
The latest couple to cheat on their real partners with their dancing partners has made headlines over the last couple of days...they were caught passionately kissing in the street after a night out.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-6250199/Strictlys-Seann-Walsh-APOLOGIES-kissing-married-dance-partner-Katya-Jones.html
But it was just a kiss not an affair (if they are to be believed) His long term girlfriend seems to have dumped him, but is a kiss worth ending a relationship?

And also untrue.
I’ve seen photos of Horatio and I wouldn’t kick her out of bed.
Anybody can post up photos from 15, 20 or 25 years ago, if they so choose...

Re: The 'Strictly' curse strikes again.
Horacio wasn’t calling you a dick, Quill, she was talking about the guy in the article.
Besides that, calling someone a dick, is nowhere near as bad as talking to a woman about her vagina - as you did. Calling someone a cunt, isn’t as bad as saying what you did about a woman’s vagina.
You’re on par with Trump and his pussy-grabbing. It’s one step away, no?
I guess a lot of men resort to talking about, grabbing or harassing a woman’s cunt, when they get angry.
Go figure.

Fully support Eds here.
Horatio wasn't calling anyone here a dick. And Quill, your comment about Horatio was disgusting. There are no double standards at play. Many here have used insulting words to describe public figures, doing so isn't against the rules. Saying something so disgusting to a member is not something that will be allowed without at least a warning, and more if repeated.
You are far better than that Quill. The only reason I can think that you said it at all is that you thought Horatio was calling you a dick. So why not just apologise for the misunderstanding and move on.
And no, there is no reason for anyone to 'judge' the mods. Not going to happen.

Quill, I know that you think you're using a British word and that you're being clever when you use the C word, but it's really not a nice word and many British people think it's vulgar and common, so don't think you're impressing all Brits by using it.

NOTacceptable Quill, even IF she was calling you a dick (which she wasnt)....since the swear bot was relaxed you have been like a kid with a new toy....
Wolfie ...STFU......All those who have been banned OR left in a huff were banned/pressured NOT for their opinions, but for the abusive way they adressed dissent with those opinions....in the main those RWers that went were banned for overt racism etc and those LWers gone were jumped on for abusive behaviour.
Smelly Major etc willingly and willfully exceeded the bounds of what is acceptable.
Quill...you STILL dont get it....this is not a democracy where you get to vote on issues of policy, nor do you have constitutional rights etc....youand everyone else are guests in bens parlour.......and a certain degree of decorum is expected....and there is no "due process" available when you start flinging the best china around.

Anyway....Strictly is on tonight...(BBC1 6.40) and after speculation that the two dancers would not be appearing, they will be, so it'll be interesting to see if people will vote for their dance or judge them on their morals...and not vote at all.

So what? You are just admitting that you are dragging your own predilections into modding. You like 'dick' but you don't like 'cunt'...WTF could predict that? Due process of law was designed to eliminate any one person's personal dictates. You’ve got rules, and you’ve got filters. Now we’ve got to anticipate Vic’s personal likes and dislikes, from day to day?
Due process also gives posters some predictability as to what to expect. I have repeatedly pointed out to you in particular, that it's not workable if it's not predictable. Due process is designed to foretell the standards.
Your capricious modding simply ruins the forum. It doesn't touch me. Everyone just leaves, as I'm sure you've noticed.

I'm not complaining about the lack of democracy, which is indeed always endemic with RW'ers. I'm talking about communication. Are you saying that Ben's parlour has no room for genuine communication?
I guess so, because a lot of the best people have taken that message and left.

You read the same sentence as everyone else. It was obvious to everyone she was calling the guy in the OP a dick but it was only you, who thought it aimed at him.
And even if she did call you a dick, you spoke about her vagina.
Not much difference between one who degrades a woman’s vagina and one who grabs it.

Same with a dick...it's a vernacular reference in both cases.
One correction: the vagina is a canal in a female mammal that leads from the uterus to the external orifice of the genital canal. Merriam-Webster.
Pussy, vulva and cunus are references to the external parts of the female genital organs, not the canal.

I am getting the odd feeling that Quill just likes using vulgar words to describe a womans vagina, he has done pussy to death now he is making the most of the obsolete word filter on the c word.

Yes, but this one has seen an extraordinary change over the last few years. It has gone far to the right, resulting in the kind of differences you see in this thread. Generally, lefties promote toleration and openness, while rightys promote the stricter reward and punishment. We used to be about middlin', but lately it's moved. As a consequence, there's just a few of us lefties left, while the rightys predominate.

Why define someone by their political stance anyway? There is more to most of us than the actual party we support.....thats why I for one prefer to start more general threads that everyone can have a part of.

That's the way humans are...they generalize. I admit, there are lots of exceptions and confusions. I, myself, am a strict law and order type, having been a prosecutor. I am strongly opposed to Trump, but that's because he's an organized criminal engaging in white collar crime. I'm intolerant of Kavanaugh because he is a rapist, and fits all of the prototypical patterns. I'm also hard on racist cops who go around murdering blacks. But I'm the first one to argue the defense side, that an accused (in some story) is entitled to the presumption of innocence. And I will pick apart the evidence.
So, depending on the context, I end up on both sides of the fence. I really don't have a preference, I'm just for doing it according to due process of law...whichever the cause bends.

Cheating bastards. Chuck a bucket of cold water over them.
No consideration for their partners.
It was the birthday of his gf.
Poor girl spent her birthday alone at home while the alleycat tomcatted with his tart (in the alley, fittingly).

I view the C word every bit the equivalent of the D word. Every time someone uses the D word I tend to use the C word to show, tacitly, how vulgar the person is being. If I dress it up a bit, I'm merely trying to press home the point all the harder.
I'm not fond of using any swear words to address your interlocutor in debate. But to display a point I will do it. I would be as happy if all four-letter words were banned from the forum.
BTW...technically the etymology of the word 'cunt' is an interesting history in itself. Get a book of poetry from the court of Kathrine of France, and see for yourself. At one time, in ancient French, it was a very romantic term.

That's a positive thing, innit? It's just the homologous part to the D. It's only in America that the Baptists went to work on the term, anyway. Anything to disappoint those idiots.

We need words in the English language that has some sort of shock value, the F word used to have it, but now its used so often its worthless, bit like the C word, they have been cheapened with overuse.
Its a shame really.

There's a difference between normalized and cheapened. The only thing about the C word is that prissy American women used pretend to be upset by it. However, I think they were just selling us on their virginity and purity.

Well whichever word you care to use, overuse of any swear word means it loses it's effect to shock.
In the UK the C word isn't used verbally much, not in the company I keep anyway, and we dont hear it that much on TV really.
In fact, thinking about it, it's the internet, seeing it written so frequently and out of context, often used as a casual insult, that has made the word ineffective compared to how it was.

Im not sure. Personally I dont like the word, it doesnt shock me, it's just nasty when used as an insult.
And in spite of what you say, you were offended when you thought (wrongly) that someone had used a vulgar word aimed at you a couple of days ago.
Seems some words still do have an effect when used as an insult.

It wasn't "wrongly". You are just covering for your friend. The exchange was just fair quid pro quo...if you like that kind of language, here it is backatchah.
If we are going to have a swearing forum, we may as well normalize all the words. I've yet to hear someone justify the claim that cunt is somehow worse than dick, or even ass. They're all just monosyllabic words learned in the schoolyard.
And those who use them all embellish them to intensify the effect: we don't just say ass, we make it asswipe; or cock becomes cocksucker, etc. It's nonsense to pretend to be so blasé about it, when you people are so busy inventing new suffixes.

Re: The 'Strictly' curse strikes again.
There was a London street named Gropecunt Lane in the 13th century. Sounds like an interesting place to have been!
I've always taken the c-word to be derived from the ancient Norse word kunta and it is easy to imagine those sex-starved Vikings who had been tossing about (oops!) on the North Sea for weeks on end waving their choppers (oops again!) as they stormed the Northumberland
coast chanting "we want kunta! We want kunta!"

Quill....do me a favour and read back to where you thought the word "dick" was aimed at you....it clearly was not. We were talking about Sean Walsh not you....for goodness sake admit when you are wrong.
The C word, especially when used so personally as you did, is far more insulting than the word dick, which is a fairly common put down in the UK, and we dont say ass here, we use the correct spelling and say arse....which tbh, you have been throughout this thread.

It clearly was intended for me. It's right there before your eyes. What you are dealing out is a cover story, designed to divert the faux pas and cleanse your good friend (and co-woman's political caucus member), of any stain for her actions.
As I told eds, the message you are sounding is, are you going to believe me, or your lying eyes. Please don't go all Republican on me...I'm just not that stupid.

Nicko, I would put you in the same class...trying to cover for your righty friends. It's not debatable, except those who need an excuse for the perp.

You've bought into the same nonsense, proving that a good political line is infectious.

Re: The 'Strictly' curse strikes again.
Anyway...the unfaithful couple were voted through to dance again next week and apparently Strictly had the biggest audience ever....which proves scandal sells.

For pity sake Quill, it wasn't aimed at you as everyone else can plainly see, to still think it was is incredibly fragile of you.

You're playing a rhetorical 'bolt hole'. Y'all got caught, and need a way out. This is it, and y'all have jumped in.
I've seen this game with Republicans for eons. They say something inane, usually racist, get called out, and then scurry around looking for a way to crawl their way out. "When I called 'im a coon, I meant he's...um, smart and clever in the woods."

I'm very much a subscriber to Nicko's "who gives a shit?" school of thought on the particular issue of Strictly Come Dancing and the tabloid gossip that surrounds the show's coterie of mainly c-list celebrities, but I followed this debate because it was being conducted in what I held to be an intelligent, constructive and civilised manner. Quite excellent IMO.
But Quill, old chap, you are 100 per cent wrong in your assumption about HT's post: It was perfectly obvious to me, as a casual observer, that the words referred specifically and exclusively to the contestant and not to you and that your subsequent comment was, well shall we say, below the belt.
As someone who is not immune to falling into a large hole of his own creation and then trying to use a shovel rather than a ladder to get out, may I just gently advise: Stop diggin'?
