EXCLUSIVE: Dentist mother is locked up for three days with daughter, four, in Dubai jail for having glass of wine on Emirates flight from Gatwick - and now could be detained in UAE for a year
First topic message reminder :
A mother has told of her terrifying ordeal of being locked up in a filthy Dubai jail for three days with her four-year-old daughter for drinking a glass of wine on a flight from London. Ellie Holman, 44, was arrested after being asked by an immigration official at Dubai International Airport if she had consumed alcohol on the eight-hour flight.
The mother-of-three, a dentist, from Sevenoaks, Kent, says she was held in a 'baking hot and foul smelling' airport detention centre – and not allowed to call her husband, Gary.
Now Dr Holman faces spending up to a year in the strict Arab state for her case to be settled.
Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, she said: 'My little girl had to go to the toilet on the cell floor. I have never heard her cry in the same way as she did in that cell.

It's wrong because it's the wrong thread. How can you expect order here if you can't post in the right thread?

I still cannot believe people on here think, because she filmed the interaction to protect herself, that somehow, the barbaric treatment she received was basically justified.
Her child was locked up with her.
You may not agree with her filming, but in no way does that warrant the treatments she received. Hence why such barbarity needs to be challenged.
This dumb view that where people film something and an even more paranoid view, its done for attention. Shows how little people can grasp why people do film to proect themselves from where they are clearly being wronged.
Thankfully, the ruler of this backward country intervened and do you know why? Because it made bad publicity for his country. Which is a major tourist attraction for Brits
You dont help change countries by slating the women here and like I say, you actually play into the hands of such oppressive beleifs.
To say other nations with barbaric laws have to be respected, is so stuuupid, its basically saying that when slavery was part of law, it should have been respected. It shows people clearly would rather bow down to barbaric laws and even worse defend such oppressive laws
I mean what next, that if someone manages to capture filming slave trafficking and are arrested for exposing this, that they are some how in the wrong?
Some people really have a fucked up mentality

I don't think they're going to change their laws because some woman broke them, or because some random person on a forum objects to them.

Well here is the point
Do you want them to change the laws or keep them?

I will ask again
Does rags back a law, for people to be denied to defend themselves with evidence?

She wasn't defending herself, she was filming him in order to make a complaint about him, to put it on the internet, or to just watch it later for something to do.

It was pretty stupid doing something so provocative in circumstances like that though, wasn't it?
She might well get away with it by shoving a camera in the face of a traffic warden being overly bumptious in a British town, but with an immigration officer in a strictly Muslim and male-dominated place like Dubai?

Yes, I agree with you Fred. She shouldn't get away with here either, but it's pretty presumptuous to think she can do it in Dubai.

I see the two neo-conservatives are still defending the barbaric laws of an Islamic country

How she was being treated hence its rational to record as evidence.

She was being asked to see her passport and visa...
Hardly reason to claim being badly treated...

Neither of us were there to say what happened.
She recorded to protect herself
Nothing wrong with that mate.

She was being treated like any other person arriving at the airport passport control desk would be... and wouldn't be in the situation she is had she cooperated instead of behaving how she did...!

She's back then. I said she'd be back soon. Let's hope she doesn't make the same mistake in the future.
